    Hi,
I've had my 2008 Tundra for several weeks and have only put about 300 miles on it. It had 60,000 when I got it.

Today I found a wire coming out of the top of the windshield. This is my first truck but not my first vehicle and I've never seen this before.

Guess I'll call an auto glass shop and see what they say.

I suspect the wire was part of the upper windshield reveal molding (yours is mostly gone) to keep the molding edge laying flat against the glass. If interested, you can probably replace that molding yourself with some parts help from @Roman.

You're right. Now I can't find any reference to the top molding. I can find a lot of places that reference the molding on the left and right sides but nothing about the top. I have a feeling that this is not a separate piece. This truck being new to me I'm not even sure what the top of the windshield is supposed to look like. :)

I also looked and didn't see a top molding, only the sides. I've turned on the @Roman signal, but he may still be catching up from taking vacation. :D

I even posted the question directly to him. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

    Huh.

My 2017 has like a 1/4" gap between glass edge and steel top, and there appears to be the edge of thin rubber dam in the gap, and that's it. The primered pinch weld is not visible as it is in the OP's truck. A Gen2 probably should have the same configuration as my Gen3. If so, then that's one gnarly windshield install. Check the stamp on the driver-side lower corner to determine if it's OEM glass @oldscout1001; the windshield may have already been replaced (poorly).

It's understandable if Toyota concentrates on the important parts, and doesn't bother selling commodities for glass installation. If the gap at the top isn't encouraging corrosion, then it's an aesthetic issue. Unfortunately, the fix will probably be a quality windshield installation.
