Does the OEM glass have the tint strip at the top of the windshield? Back in February Safelite showed up to replace my windshield and had just plain clear glass (no tint strip) saying that Toyota messed up with the part number so I turned them away as my claim is covering for OEM glass, which the technician agreed with. Finally they are coming back out tomorrow now with hopefully the correct piece of glass but they cannot confirm any details on the features of the glass other than they ordered OEM glass from Toyota. They also said no recalibration is necessary for my 2016 limited CM?

If Safelite actually ordered OEM glass, its an OEM equivalent and you will be paying a portion of that at your expense. They normally use Chinese branded glass and can't get actual OEM glass. Yours is a 2016, so you do not have the TSS that requires calibration. TSS is on 2018 and newer. On another note, Safelite is very hit and miss. They push more quantity than quality. See what brand is stamped on the glass when it arrives. If it's PGW or Vitra, you are good. If it's Fuyou, do not install it.

Good to know on the calibration part thanks! Safelite is claiming that they are getting the glass shipped to them from Toyota, do you think that would still be just OEM equivalent? I just want the same windshield that it has in it as I bought it as that is what the glass protection package that is factored into my loan covers. It definitely wouldn’t have the same look and function with just plain clear glass.

There is about 3 manufacturers that make OEM glass, but If a vehicle is more than a couple of years old, it is hard to get OEM glass, even for Toyota. Most dealerships send vehicles out for glass replacement. The equivalents are made to OEM specs, so no worries there is it's a PGW or Vitra. I had mine replaced last April and have no issues at all.

I dont think my 2017 had tint at the top when I bought it. If it did it was pretty light. I added a tint strip. It is about 1.5" below ASI line but so far no problems with inspections in Texas. Any smaller and it would not even be worth having. I would add it before windshield is installed. It would be a lot easier.

Safelite showed up last week with the same clear glass as before with no tint strip and they wanted to make things right to get me the one I wanted and that they are being paid for to replace so they will be back again tomorrow with the correct OEM W/tint strip hopefully, if not they said they would give me a credit to take it to a tint shop and have them do a custom one which I thought was pretty cool so either way should have a new windshield in my truck tomorrow.

Good thread with lots of valuable information, thank you for sharing. The glass they brought out last time did have the Toyota logo on it but I didn’t catch the brand of it but guessing PGW, I just got a quick look of it in the back of the installers van to confirm that it didn’t have the tint strip. Hopefully the same installer comes back out tomorrow as he seems like he knows what he’s doing but will definitely be taking some before install pictures either way. The claim ticket is for $1,060 so I feel like I shouldn’t sell myself short of anything worth less than that value. $0 out of pocket but I’ve been paying for glass protection factored into my loan for about 5 years now and it expires in about 10 days so they better get it right this time, fingers crossed and will update tomorrow after it’s installed.
