Just purchased a southern 05 SR5 DC RWD with 90k. I wanted a “rust free” tundra, rwd or 4x4 for camping fishing etc… I found a well documented example in Florida and decided to jump on it. I live in Nebraska so I reluctantly did everything online against my better judgement. I purchased from a reputable dealer who was upfront, sent lots of photos and was willing to negotiate since it was due for 90k mile maintenance. I was pleasantly surprised when I was finally able to put my hands on it, inspect it in person. It was better than described. I immediately took it to my mechanic and he ensure me that I purchased a sound vehicle. I felt very lucky! I’ve been reading the Tundra forum for awhile and very much appreciate the knowledge and valuable insight you guys bring. Most of my questions have already been addressed but will not hesitate to ask for help when needed.

What was the question? Do you need a windshield washer reservoir?

Valuable lesson learned. Replace windshield wiper fluid in a vehicle bought in Florida that now resides in Nebraska before the temps drop below zero. Replacement doesn’t look to difficult but with 9 inches of snow and single digit temps I’ll have to wait for warmer days. Any tips or anything I need to know?

Ooof, be careful with those low-mile engines. Check all seals and gaskets!

    Tank costs a fortune

Some come with a level sensor pre-installed - check which you have before ordering

I wouldn't doubt if this is one of the rare cases where it makes sense to buy the Dorman brand replacement part; wouldn't surprise me if they were the ones to make it in modern day.

It may be the pump or the grommet. Mine was leaking and the pump had split

It looks like the grommet is where it’s leaking. Can I replace just the grommet or is it attached to the filler neck?

I have not found the grommet by itself, wondering if it is attached to the neck or the reservoir?

Using the parts system described in the bullets at the top of this sticky post (super handy info in there), I was able to pull up this exploded diagram in about 20 seconds. Without pics, I'm flying blind. Do you see your grommet in this exploded diagram? If not, there's a solid chance you can't buy it alone.

(Note: This diagram is for my AC, you have a DC, its exploded may be different, you may want to use that post I linked to look up your own truck by its VIN to get DC-specific parts. This diagram is in the Electrics section, under 'Windshield Washer')

Oh, and a spoiler. If the grommet is here, no, about a million people have asked in the past, you cannot buy that part alone. You hafta buy the entire assembly that's marked "85301", which is three pieces total.

I was thinking the grommet where the pump plugs in could be a leaker as well.

It’s definitely where the neck connects to the reservoir. The local Toyota dealer had the neck piece for $122 but couldn’t tell me if the grommet was attached to the neck or the reservoir. Took shiftys advice and ordered the entire assembly from Dorman for $140. They only had 4 left in case you need one.

I wouldn’t doubt if that’ll be a part that ultimately gets discontinued soon. Seems like, as this generation is approaching hit the 15yr-from-its-end point in 2021, a lot of parts are being discontinued. We are running up on 18yrs since the generation ended, I expect it’s only going to get worse. If/when Dorman stops making parts you know you got a problem

That said, I should really take mine apart, and measure the grommet with a digital caliper for OD, ID, and thickness. There has to be a rubber grommet at Fastenal or McMaster-Carr that fits and it’s probably only $2 or something. In fact you may be able to get one slightly more robust which may seat better or something.

Wouldn’t it be nice if a company like LMC Truck started making the discontinued parts like they do for old Fords and Chevys

I have repaired a lot of things with JB Weld. I have repaired small plastic gas tanks with it and they didn't leak. If it was mine I would give it a try.

this would be even better if he made a quick disconnect/connect. So he could just swap out bottles.
