I have a 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 I am trying to put in an aftermarket stereo but I have two 20 pin connectors that plugged into the stock radio with 13 wires going to the first and 6 going to the second. I have the tweeters in the front doors and the amplifier in the back under passenger side seat. I have read about bypassing the amplifier but that also has two 20 pin connectors going to it. I don’t mind wiring my own custom job because I haven’t been able to find a connector that works with either the stock harness behind the dash or one that bypasses the amplifier. I just don’t know what each wire does in the stock harness and if I could figure that out I could do my own custom job. If anyone has any tips or help that would be appreciated. I have uploaded the layouts of the two clips behind the dash that use to connect to my stock radio. I also uploaded a layout of the wiring harness my aftermarket radio provided. Hoping someone can help me out. Thanks in advance!

Since there are some differences in regards to wiring for an AC cab vs DC, which do you have ?

EWD(electric wiring diagrams) can be had in the Electrical Forum at below link for a 2006 and other 1st Gens.

If you don't mind, could you also upload a pic of front and rear of stock radio or, does your stock radio have a display ?

Mind re-checking the wires....I might be missing one but this is a start until add more info.

@BubbaW he mentioned under rear passenger seat, so I'm assuming it's an AC vs. DC or RC.

That said, @Luke1365 what you're trying to do with adapting the existing wiring to work ... why? It's an exercise in futility. And does your truck have the JBL amp or the Fujitsu amp, since they're wired differently?

The 2nd image in this reply should help nail down which adapters you need: https://www.tundras.com/posts/2992921

This post talks about the differences in cabs/OEM amps/etc.: https://www.tundras.com/posts/2967340

The few people I've found who've adapted out the factory wiring to retain the OEM amp lost all ability to fade/balance (either one, the other, or both).

Just buy the adapter cables, they're cheap as shit, they do the job perfectly, and your new head unit is liable to put out cleaner, more stout power than the 15-20 year old tech Toyota used, unless you're buying some cheaper equipment like Boss or ATOTO. And make sure you properly crimp and/or solder your wiring. Only assholes cut factory harnesses when there's a cheap adapter available.

If you want some more audio-related info, check the "Audio, audio upgrades and cameras..." section in the 1st reply of this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

BubbaW thank you for the info it was very helpful! I did figure out what each wire is for with your help! I have the access cab and no radio display. It is not JBL. I included pictures of the stock harnesses. I was able to get my new radio to turn on but now no sound, from the research I’ve done, sounds like it’s a problem with the amp turning on and needing communication wires connected which apparently only works with the stock radio. So now looking to bypass the amp and go directly to the speaker wires.

Alb1k that harness doesn’t fit any connection my truck has at the amp or after it. I did come across it as I was looking for something simple. I have two 20 pin connectors going into and out of the amp. That one I believe is a ten pin connector.

shifty I didn’t come across your reply until after I had already tried to connect my aftermarket radio to the amp and found out for myself it is as you said “an exercise in futility” there apparently needs to be a communication wire connected from the radio to the amp which seems to only exist with the stock radio, which is why everyone seems to bypass the amp. I will be looking to do that next. Thanks for your help everyone!!

Again, for you @ManDep and @Luke1365

You need to read the "Audio, audio upgrades and cameras..." section in the 1st reply of this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

It tells you every harness you need. It tells you everything you need to do. It explains how to upgrade with camera. It literally tells you everything you could need to know about these trucks, since the radio harnesses are so wildly different between cab/audio types.

Go read that section, and if it doesn't answer your question specifically, and tell you exactly which harnesses to buy, then I'd like to know about it so I can edit the thread and add the info.

And don't buy your adapter harnesses on scAmazon/fleaBay. We had someone on here who apparently got a counterfeit harness from scAmazon last month.
