I have 2018 tundra with 7 inch lift and 37/12.50/20 Falken wildpeak tires with 20x12 -51 wheels. I was not paying attention earlier but I just noticed other day my mpg is pretty bad. I know tundra has worst gas mileage. But 8.5mpg is pretty bad. I just switched to 37s 6-7months ago. I had 35s before and gas mileage was like 11 or 12. What should I do bring back the little better gas mileage? Should I switch to 35s or regear or something?

What mpgs are you looking for? Me trying to calculate the added rotational mass of 20x12 wheels with 37” tires…

I get 12ish with 34s on stock TRD OR 18” alloys. I do run a full set of skids and sliders.

Lower it back down and put smaller, lighter, narrower tires on it. Gas mileage will magically improve. Or, keep it the way you want it and get a cheap beater to commute in.

Whatever this forum told me to do
This is the real answer. Don't overthink it.

I'm all stock on wheels & suspension (don't mind the 9psi Blower) and I get 17mpg avg driving like an adult.

Yes, I get wayyy less whenever I hit PE/open loop. But I tend to drive like a paw-paw.

If you’re going by the dash, your computer thinks you’re on the stock 275/65R18s.

A 37” tire is 15.3% larger in circumference. So your 8.5 mpg corrected for tire size is 9.8 mpg. Still…not great. But with a 7” lift, 37s, and factory gearing, you may as well be dragging an open parachute behind the truck everywhere you go.

    I’m at 14 combined in my ‘21 with a 2” lift and 285/75s.

Normal, there is no issue. 7 inch lift and 37s, why would you even consider MPG running such a setup?

Smaller lighter tires or regear to 5.29s will help MPG, but you will need to spend $ for that which negates the MPG improvement you will see....its still costing you $$$.

Regear is costly , you will never recoup the cost of the regear in MPG savings. You built the truck as you wanted, and 9-10MPG with your setup is completely normal. You may see 1MPG improvement dropping back down to 35s. But again, you may not recoup the cost of changing to 35s in the minor MPG improvement. It would take a LONG time to get back the $1500 in tires with 1-2 MPG improvement. Regear costs even more, doubt you would recoup the cost in MPG improvement over several years.

3" lift, 35's, lots of armor, heavy foot, stock gears, getting about 11-12 so you really won't gain a bunch. Life is too short, just enjoy the ride.

it is what it is, costs $ to have a big truck. Your truck looks great however. When the stock EPA is 13/17, getting 10ish with that lift and 37s is really not bad at all.

Change your driving habits. Don’t get on the gas so much, ease into acceleration and coast when you can. Not much anyone can tell you, sorry but complaining about mpg with your setup is a little silly.

echo pretty much what almost all the others said above.
also, check your tire size difference to your mileage difference. when i went to 325/60R20's, the difference was pretty close to 10%. which means my speed was off 10%, as well as my driven miles. recheck manually, and you'll prob see higher than what the cluster is showing you. i think i was getting about 1-1.5 better mpg than what the cluster was telling me. but when i did my lift, i knew that a big lift n tires meant bigger gas bills, bigger expenses, bigger haters, etc, etc.

I put a cold air intake and throttle body spacer on and got about 1.5 mpg increase. Then I put new wheels and 295/70r18 tires on. I lost about 3 mpg. So, I’m in the negative for mpg from stock to where I’m at now. Now I’m at around 13 mpg on average.

Falken Wildpeaks are a heavy tire compared to other ATs. I have Falkens 275/70 r18 with TRD pro fox suspension on my 2015 and get 12.6. I was gonna switch to Toyo at3s which are considerably lighter during the pandemic but they were out of stock. Lord knows what they cost now.
