something popped up in my local Facebook...

A limited, Crewmax. Its pretty much a dream truck.
lifted a few inches. Wheels/tires. Bumper/winch. Matching topper. Everything looks great inside and out.

    BUT
    It has 355k miles.

Now this guy has owned it since 60k miles and seems to have taken care of it. But at the end of the day, this is still a TON of miles.

    It's a 2008.

I talked him down to 10k.

Would you buy something like this?

Seems high, but then again there’s the million mile tundra. Does he have service records or anything? If it’s your dream truck, seems to be in physically good shape, drives well, no rust underneath, and has records, I’d say go for it!!

That is a bunch of miles and the risk is all on you for a transmission/engine.

However the price is right. I couldn't see if the limited has a sunroof so I just added that in.

10k is high imo for that many miles. I wouldn't have any issue buying it if it was cheaper. I don't know where you're located but quick glance around Utah and a couple trucks for sub $10k with similar mileage, or 200k for $10k. I would wait, better deals will come along or go a bit outside your normal search zone and drive an extra hour to save a few grand/100k.

I’d prob be willing to pay like 7k for that truck bc even if it needed a new engine/tranny itd still be a hell of a lot cheaper than a new truck.

But todays used market is stupid crazy.

Your current vehicle is an 04 with 295k? Do you trust that still? If so, then the 300k+ truck may be something to still consider. It may be available for a little while and then could even negotiate lower possibly?

I have 2011 that I purchased new. Has 481K and besides a fuel pump and starter it has not given me any issues. If it has been properly maintained I wouldn’t hesitate for the right price.

If you are mechanically inclined and able to do any repairs that are necessary, then a high mileage car for a good deal could be worth it. If it breaks and you have to pay someone else to fix it, then maybe not. Vehicles with 350k miles have a variety of items that are old and have seen a lot of use and will be nearing end of life.

Just looking at the edge of the drivers seats, looks like it was one of two things.. babied and taken care of, or the interior was replaced due to excessive wear and tear.

that is a lot of ODO digits. If it was me, I’d say $5k and see what happens.

Offer $7500. Don't budge. High mileage. Yes there are a couple million mile tunnies. 355K is pushing it realistically.....do it for $7500 cash out the door

Before the pandemic, there was a 2010 crewmax limited for sale in Nashville with 491k miles. $7600. All the receipts. I thought hard about it. I could do a LOT of repairs for $7600 vs the $46k I spent on mine.

I’d offer $8k firm if serious.

Get it checked out by a reputable shop, modern scan tools with modern engines can tell you an amazing amount of information about how an engine is running. If it checks out to be in good condition then 10K isn't unreasonable in today's used vehicle market. If that was in my area I'd be tempted to buy that, sell my truck and pay off the wife's car and have a few thousand extra to replace rubber items that are likely staring to wear out just from age, bushing/motor mounts/etc. In modern reliable vehicles (Toyota/Honda) miles is far less important than treatment and maintenance, I'd rather buy a tundra with 400K than a Dodge with 100K.

Tundras are pretty reliable but with that kind of mileage, I would only get it if it was a deal. That is a lot of miles for any vehicle no matter how reliable it is.

Car makers are starting to advertise on TV, two quarters of negative growth (maybe three) and companies are cutting jobs. Problem is sellers either don't know this or chose to ignore the facts.

My way of thinking, you can always go up from lower offer. But you’re likely not too come down from a higher one.

Too many miles, IMO for that price. I got my '07 with only 135k miles for $11k, but the bed of the truck had some pretty bad dents.
