We are original owners of a 2000 Tundra TRD sr5 with 80,000 miles. We have wanted to buy a camper about 4-5000 lbs. Would you guys trust the Tundra hauling that much weight?
    Thanks,
    Tom

What's your owners manual state? Do you mean towing? Are you in the rust belt with possible frame rusting beyond surface rust?

How far are you towing? Mountains or flat land? The 4.7 is more than capable of pulling 5000lbs

You’re gonna be towing in 3rd gear, so you won’t be flying down the road like everyone tows today in their turbo diesels, but who cares 60mph is safer anyway

Any chance that you could take it for a test drive? Just because some of us have towed heavy it'll be you that has to be happy with it. Seems to me that it's the kind of purchase that you would want to take for spin, to make sure everything is kosher, before signing paperwork.

Can you? Yes you can. Should you? If you’re starting with a 4-5000# camper, you should be able to tow that and keep it within the numbers if that matters. I towed a larger camper than that with my 2000 for years. It’s possible and capable. Your setup and comfort zone may vary.

That's a good start. Now you need to find out what the towing capacity of your particular truck is. Not familiar with that year but usually the towing capacity depends on what engine you have and if your truck came equipped with a towing package. Also do you have a trailer brake controller.

I had a 2003 limited 4x4 4.7 my dad had it before me and he had a 7200 pound travel trailer. He would pull it from California to Florida many times it did just fine not a power house up the hills put would pull down the interstate at speed. When I got it I had a 4700 pound trailer it would pull it even better less weight right. I could run down the interstate at 60 I took it for California to Oregon and got 10 mpg. Going up the passes about 50 miles an hour but that's at have throttle I take it easy on my equipment. Truck had 176,000 miles on it air bags I would run 50psi in them. The trailer matters my trailer was balanced really well and towed like it was on rails.
