I’ve wondered for a while if I happened to have a 14 gallon reserve since I was told when I bought my truck with the SR5 package that there is a 38 gallon gas tank installed in it and I have only been able to put at most 24 gallons of gas. Servco told me to take it into the dealer and have them check to see which gas tank I have and today the dealer confirmed that I have a 26 gallon gas tank in which I should as per my window sticker have a 38 gallon gas tank. Has anyone ever bought a brand new Tundra with the wrong size gas tank installed in it and if so, what have you done to resolve it? I have had many problems with this truck since being brand new.

Can you post pics of the tank? The 26 gallon has a 6 gallon reserve so it won't take 24 gallons at the pump.

38 gallons should be standard on SR5 upgrade package and up. I know there were a few models that didn’t give the upgraded tank. Trail edition I believe was just 26.

I took it into the dealer since I’m not a mechanic and can’t determine which size it is. Today the dealer confirmed it is in fact a 26 gallon tank and they told me only the limited and platinum models come with the 38 gallon tank. Obviously he doesn’t know what he’s talking about because if you have the SR5 package in it when you buy it, it is included with a 38 gallon tank.

I think the front bench seat was 26 gallon for earlier years, but I don't know of any 2021's that aren't 38 gallon for the SR5.

You’d think the service manager should know this, but he must think I’m a dumb blonde and believe me I’m not blonde. He’s tried to tell me for the past 2 1/2 years things about my truck that he thinks I don’t know about yet I do. It is a Trd and my window sticker itself says it has a 3 gallon tank and the main dealer confirmed based off of my Vin that it is a 38 gallon tank truck. Basically they installed the wrong size tank when they built this truck.

Hey guys, I’m new at this forum and don’t know how to reply to the specific person on the thread. All great responses from great guys who know they’re tundras unlike the dealer. Could you please explain to me how I can reply to specific person who sent me a message.

Unfortunately, my truck is at the dealer right now and it is 60 miles away so it’s not as easy for me to try and stick my head under it. I googled the size of the tanks, but I have never looked under it and the main dealer told me to take it into the dealer to confirm what size tank it has and the dealer on my island confirmed that it has a 26 gallon tank. So big mistake on them for selling me when that should have a 38 gallon

Has anyone ever experienced a loud noise when starting up there tundras? I’ve had it from the beginning and took it into the dealer over a dozen times and they never found anything. And now, two years later they come back and tell me that it’s the pulley making noise and that it’s rusted. Funny that means it was rusted when I bought it brand new 2 1/2 years ago and kept complaining to them about the noise. And on top of that my air conditioning didn’t work for the first eight months because they couldn’t figure out how to make it work or how to fix it.

Dealerships are pretty crappy. Unless you buy from them, they seem to consider any other dealership’s vehicle 2nd Class.

Any idea what your dash says on average for 'fuel range to empty" after you do fillups?

Yep it only goes to 490. And I’ve read the 38 gallons should read 700+.

Yes they are! And I bought it from their main dealership on Oahu. I live in the Big Island and that dealer is the one telling me crap. The service manager even tried to tell me how recirculation button works and that it doesn’t keep the bad air out from outside when you pass by something that smells really bad. The recirculate didn’t work for the first eight months and then they finally got it to work along with the air conditioning, but they still didn’t solve any of the other problems that came with it being brand new.
I’ve never heard of an SX trim in a tundra.

Thank you for sending me this. When I do get my truck back, I will try and look underneath and see what I can see. Is it near the rear or the front of the truck or going from front to back in the middle?

That's definitely not accurate info from your dealer... Do you still have a copy of your window sticker; if so, that will list the tank size that was allocated for your truck. If not, you should be able to get a copy of it online. From there, you'll know what you're suppose to have and be able to negotiate resolution

It will run front to back starting at the back side of the drivers door. I have a Double Cab with the 38 gallon and it runs from the back of the drivers door to the rear wheelwell.

This is wrong also; 38 gallon tank will show somewhere around 480-510 and 26 gallon will show low 300s....

Yes, the main dealer confirmed based off of my Vin that it is supposed to have a 38 gallon fuel tank and told me to take it into the dealer on my island to confirm. The dealer called me today saying that they looked at it and I have a 26 gallon tank and that so it’s supposed to be on there. Boy are the wrong.
I have it in my truck, however, it’s at that dealer right now and they’re probably going through my glove box throwing all my paperwork away. How do I get it online? My salesman confirm time with me today as well that it is supposed to have a 38 gallon tank and he knows his trucks versus the service manager who doesn’t.
Thanks! I will look once I get mines back to confirm. Being that the dealer probably didn’t even look at it and just went with what the service manager said that it only comes with a 26 and I have their service notes showing all of this and their mistakes.
Huh……..it shows 490 when I fill up from empty with the light on. But I’ve only ever put a max of 24 gallons in.

I will check it out and see if I can pull it up. It’s in my glove box at the dealer right now. How much you wanna bet it’s gone when I get my truck back. Lol.

So if she is showing well into the 400's, that has to be the 38 gallon.

Did you run your VIN online to look at the build?
