I have a 2008 limited that does not appear to have remote start (or if it does I can’t get it figured out)

looking at both the xstart and the 12 volt solutions products for remote start and wanted to see what folks have done, how they are working over time and what you all recommend.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have the 12voltsolutions (with cellular and app) for 3.5 years and it still works great. I love being able to locate, start, and lock or unlock with my phone. Install was easy, maybe 45 minutes.

I have installed 3 12voltsolutions over the years, including one in my '13 rock warrior. Always easy install and works perfectly. I don't have the app, just the regular that works with the key fob (lock button 3 times). the company is great, if you want special features (like extending the run time) just call them and they can modify the programming for you.

I have had 12v in 3 cars since 2018, all were easy to install and the cellular app is great. Highly recommended.

    Here’s the interface.

X-Start works great. Instructions are straight forward and is plug and play. Wiring is nice and has the protective covering. Just use factory lock x3 to start and x3 again to top. It has automatic shutoff after 15 mins.

I put an x start in my wife's 4runner for the price and ease of install i would do it again. I had not seen the 12 volt start kit but if the wiring harness is plug and play and the cost is similar I would prolly go with that one for the app start.

I put a 12V solutions remote start into my 2008 Tundra. It (at least for our year) has a pit stop mode for quick stops when you want to leave the truck running. The remote key FOB range on my Tundra was very short which limited the usefulness or remote start. I considered buying the long distance FOBs or the cellular module from 12V, but went the cheap route and added a length of wire to the receiver antenna and ran it up around the rear window. I now get >70 yards with the stock key FOB.

Do you have to plug it into the OBD port full time? If you do, what happens when you unplug it to read a code etc?

Just pulled the trigger on the 12 volt. Holding off on the accessories and may add later if the distance is an issue.

Will certainly try the extra wire as well. Thanks all

Going by memory, the 12Vsolutions plugs into your OBDII cable, but has another plug to replace the OEM OBDII cable/plug that plugged into the module. In other words, you will have your OBDII port open for using code scanners.

Ok, where is your writeup for this mod? :) This would be a great mod for anyone. Just had my stock alarm go off across football field and had to walk a bit before my key fob worked.

I installed a 12V solutions system in my 16 Tundra about 4.5 years ago. I just had to remove it today because it caused the AM2 fuse to continuously blow and the truck was dead. Nothing online tells you about this fault or why. All I could think to do was remove the system, because its directly connected to the ignition system and the AM2 fuse is all about ignition. VERY frustrating. Could not get the company on the phone at all to help troubleshoot.

If this mod doesn’t have its own sticky it needs one! 30min and the perfect addition to a remote start addition. Do it, did mine yesterday afternoon. Bill
