Yes you do. I scrunched the dust boot up so that it’s sitting on the last inch of the shock body and secured it there so that is does not stretch off if the shock is fully extended.

Why wouldn’t you just install them? Eibach includes them with the shocks for a reason, why not take the 2 minutes to do it to prevent dirt from getting in the shock seals and lead to premature failure? Maybe that’s what the seller wants so they can sell you some more.

if you go without securing them the first trip the shocks are forced to articulate some of your dust covers will be flopping around and some will be sticking to the shock body. up to you though lol.

I just installed Icon 2.0 rear shocks & was "shocked to find out, they don't even come with boot covers

Is this the norm for rear shocks? I know mntn bike shocks don't have rubber boots nowadays but did back in the day......hell even the Toyota/Bilstein 4100's the truck had before I upgraded them had a plastic cover.....:monocle:

I don't think Icon includes them standard, but @memario1214 might have some?

I’ve heard mixed thoughts on them in the past, such as a way for dirt and grime to get stuck inside of them and no way to clean them once it does……thoughts? Common sense tells me, their a good thing……but……‍♂️

Once I started to sandblast the lower mount on my RXTs with some spirited driving, I knew the shaft wasn’t going to last long if it was unprotected. If you get any kind of a ding, you’re going to have a hard time with seals.

Here’s what it looked like under the dust boots on the 5100s I just replaced with the eibachs. This is probably 40k miles. Some dirt under there, but imagine without the dust boots. The shafts were pretty spotless.

Hey Colton, would you zip tie them at the top or the bottom? I picked these up from you during a sale this summer and put the boots on but, didn’t zip tie them.

Edited OPs photo to show which side the zip tie goes on (top). The other side locks into the groove to hold it in place at the bottom by the lower mount.
