I recently bought a 2017 Tundra 1794 from a dealership. Apparently I failed to try out the BSM switch before the purchase because when I push it, I get BSM Error contact dealer message. Upon further inspection, the mirrors I have on both driver and passenger sides are not equipped with the BSM indicator lights.
I guess my question is, is it possible that the vehicle (from factory) has a BSM switch but no BSM functionality? Or did the prior owner (clean CARFAX, btw) wreck/damage them and replace with non-BSM mirrors?
First post on this site. I've enjoyed reading so far.
    Thanks in advance.

    Too many mods to come

Sounds like someone replaced them with the wrong units.

Are they standard mirrors or towing mirrors?

I agree with this comment. You could find a set of heated OEM mirrors with BSM under $200. I recently put out a WTB post and found one for just my passenger side at a great price.

    Are the towing mirrors?

you can install LEDs in place of the mirror indicators. This creates the proper resistance for the system to work properly.

    Standard mirrors.
    That's what I figured.

Thanks! I will give those a look.
I wonder if having the wrong mirror glass is what is causing the BSM warning light to come on. All of the parking sensors seem to work...I assume the BSM uses those to check for cars in blind spot.

I'll look into this. This may be a cheaper solution that replacing the mirror glass.
    Thanks!

I don't think BSM uses parking sensors. I believe there's something like a transducer in each rear bumper corner.

    O
I’ve searched the site fo a straightforward way to do this but can’t seem to find one. I’ve bought the recommended lights but I’m unsure which pins(I think 9 and 14) and how to actually make the connections. Maybe wire taps on the wires going into the connector? Any tips?

If it’s a 1794, the mirrors should power fold. Do they power fold? If not, I’d just bite the bullet and get the correct mirrors. Heat, bsm, puddle lights, power fold.

Also, before you go buying anything. Does it have an aftermarket rear bumper? If so, you’re going to need a whole lot more to get BSM working. If it doesn’t, I would crawl under the rear bumper and make sure the BSM modules are there on both sides. If they are, then you can proceed with either adding in the diode or replacing with new mirrors. Good luck!

Stock bumper. The modules are there. The mirrors do fold, have heat, turn signals…just no bsm lights.
    Thanks for your replies.

I left the pin connectors on. Striped the wires of the LEDs a little longer and wrapped them around the pin itself. Some shrink wrap and it’s been good since.

So you pulled the pins out of the harness? Pretty easy to do?

Well, I got in there to the connector and just wasn’t sure enough on which pins to remove and use. Pics I’ve seen of other peoples connectors have about half of the holes empty. Mine has every hole filled and wire colors in positions I don’t recognize from the pics.
I can’t seem to find a pin out diagram.

Did you ever move forward with the project? I crunched my passenger side mirror the other day and found that the proper replacement mirrors are now $500 . Would love to go this route if it’s pretty straightforward and successful

I didn’t. I ended up buying two new mirrors. Sorry… got psyched out.
