I bought a shovel handle and a threaded rubber coated storage hook from HD. Cut the handle to about 4’ long, drilled a hole in the end of the handle, screwed the hook into the end of the handle and now nothing is out of reach and it works like a charm. Use it about every day. :)

I did the same thing with a short painter's pole.

Bedrug keeps things right where I put them, but I can slide things (even stuff that's fairly heavy) to or from anywhere in the bed without having to get in. And when I do have to get in, the Bedrug is nice and cushy on my old skater knees.

I do have a HF ratcheting cargo bar from when I had the POS "black ice" plastic drop in bed liner, but I rarely need to use it since getting the bedrug.

Here's a thread that'll have some photos and such of what guys have done w/using a 2x8 dropped into the notches (they are made specifically for this) just rear of the rear tires on the inside of bed

Best size wood for bed crossmember

Some added additional perpendicular studs to make more partitions and such. Anyhow, a 2x8 cut will handle the job for under $20...

Also, as already mentioned, if you just grab a 3/4" rubber stall mat from a feed (horse) supply store which are generally 4x6 (cut the extra length off to fit the 5.5' bed (assuming you have a crewmax and not DC), it'll give you a nice flat, impact resistant surface that will limit the sliding; and no you don't have to worry about the 3/4" mat blowing out when the bed is empty, it's nearly 100lbs. Stall mat should set you back $60-$80, so all in you'd be under $100 going that route.
