I really want to live in a world without naps, not sure why I need them all of a sudden, but I do.

Or fix it with fire and stay.
I haven't crunched the numbers on the ideal number of humans crammed together in one spot. For both sustainability and tolerability, but I'd guess it's well under 10k in any one spot.

My town has around 70,000 but once you leave the town and are off the highway, it's pretty empty rural farmland and forest. There's a road we take heading out camping that after leaving the highway 10min out of town, we spend an hour usually without seeing another vehicle.

Same here. No time for naps anyways. I'm rarely up after 8 on week nights. Up at 4:15 makes for a long day too.

A break down about a resort town. I live in a ski resort county that has 4 towns in it, and 5 major ski resorts. During normal days were hovering at about 32,000 people in the county and my town has about 3,700 full times residents of that 32k. On weekends and busy holiday weeks we can creep over 100,000 people inhabiting the county. In the spring and fall we don't see that influx as much. Summers are now on par with winters in regard to the influx because a lot of people want to come up here and recreate and escape the heat of the Denver metro area.

I still love all that I can access here but I've grown tired of the terrible impatient driving and crowded rat fucked grocery store experience in general. When our girls graduate we will be leaving what I've called paradise for 23 plus years. The Rocky mountains are a beautiful zone but once the instagram and Facebook Gen found it it's just been different.

The Great Sand Dunes near my property used to be the least visited Nat Park. The Feds are now considering what options to take due to too many visitors now. Not enough parking spaces. Crazy overflow, especially in the spring since everybody and their brother now knows about Medano Creek and the Pass. Zapata Falls.....I don't even hike up there any more. Everybody and their dog now knows about it too.

One of my “area to retire” requirements is the region should have some tourism. It is good for the local economy and helps lesson the dependency on more traditional, yet volatile industries. But surges that 2-3x the population are nuts.

    I can't do naps either.
I'll be tired driving home or even sitting at my computer, but as soon as I lay down, I'm wide awake thinking about the things I should be doing.
At work I'll catch a 10 or 15 minute cat nap, but it's hard to get comfortable sitting in a semi-tractor day cab.
My wife, on the other hand, can lay on the couch and snooze for 3 or 4 hours easily, until Milo wakes her up..

Probably why I'm having trouble sleeping with the pain pills this week.
Yesterday I had the TV on, I'm sure that is what kept me awake.
Today I'll just chill in bed with the curtains drawn, no TV, and Maverick next to me.
He knows something is wrong with me and he won't leave my side.
I'll probably go to sleep in the dark without the TV..

It's crazy right? I used to go down there and play growing up in the front range. Beautiful area of our state.

My wife and I have this same philosophy and agree with you on "some" tourism. I started joking about is decades ago, and now refer to our county as denver west. There are a few benefits I see in staying here even with this explosion of city dwellers.
A: It keeps the girls in the same school they started in, and they want to finish school here.
B: the money I'm making has increased at or more than the pace of inflation.
C: Our home value will net us a huge payout when we cash out and move elsewhere after the girls graduate.
D: even with all the people I still find ways to enjoy life. I'm not bitter about the growth, just happy I experienced it before it exploded.

Glad he saw the light. This storm is going to produce. I can't see more than 150 yards right now.
