OK, dumb question and sorry if asked before.

    Yes they are.

I’ve been reading disturbing info on modern cars and how the onboard electronics is being used to spy on the occupants. Not just speed and driving habits but also inward pointing cameras that track the eyes, face and hands and make “corrections” depending on conditions. Microphones that record every word spoken, etc.

This info is “shared” with third parties, law enforcement, etc. Several reported as tacking sexual activity, whatever that means…

Other forums, folks have posted instances of owners trying to “opt out” of tracking and spying, by working with the manufacturer, but to no avail. Only to get the run around from department to department.

The owner’s manual for the 2021 Tundy says that I get free tracking for 10 years.

Can anybody confirm what invasive tech is on the 2021, or more important, how to unplug, or disable big brother?

Can I smooch with the wife in privacy, or drink a beer while camping while in accessory mode?

    Must disconnect.

My uncle has a country place that no one knows about….

Nothing new here. Most out manufacturers that have some sort of connectivity device or GPS can be tracked.

So toss your phone in the trash, delete all media outlets, cancel all CC's, and somehow become invisible to all the other cameras in the public. Might wanna look at a classic restomod vehicle.

You might think nobody knows about your uncles place....my dad made a living at aerial mapping/drafting. He would come across the coolest things.

I hear you and agree. Privacy is increasingly difficult and it will only get worse. There is no way to be anonymous. I drop the phone into the center console vault when I want privacy, but know it’s only a drop in the bucket.

But still, some want to fight back.

Folks expect privacy when in the cab. Folks want to be able to say anything they want without fear of it being used against them in a court of law.

“According to the recorder, you said eff you just before impact. This shows clear intent.”

“The GPS says you took a non-recommended rout to the destination. Warranty void”

“The GPS says you were in a prohibited area. Truck impounded”

“We don't agree with something you said, so we disabled your truck”

    Hal, start the truck.

    “I’m sorry, I can’t do that, Dave.”

    Dave…. What are you doing?

    Dave…. Don’t do that….

I like the Red Barchetta reference.

What really sucks is, we have to pay for the garbage that is spying on us. As you all know, it is not cheap technology.

I put electrical tape on everything, cameras, microphones. I'm sure people think I am crazy. I just want to be left out of this silly experiment as much as possible. If they are able to collect any information on anyone, you can bet that they aren't using this info to make things cheaper or easier for you.

    I'm finished with newer vehicles.

Back when OnStar became a thing, one thing I always wanted to do in an OnStart equipped car: drive to a bar on a Saturday night, go in and hang out for a few hours but drink absolutely no alcohol. Then, at closing time, start to drive home talking to myself in a very slurred way, say things like "I am way too drunk to be driving" etc. Then see if a cop mysteriously tracks me down and pulls me over for a possible DUI.

Well, I can confirm this doesn't work. I've been the designated decoy many times. My passengers have been so wasted that they were doing asphalt angels. Yeah, I said that right. Even our nations finest fighting men have off days....

It's good to have awareness about it, but I choose to just not say stupid shit with the possibility of something listening in.

I fear this is where we are heading. If they can remotely disable the heated seats in your new BMW when you cancel your subscription, what else can they disable remotely?

The heaviest, baby. I made mine more like a ski mask. Wrapped my entire head and neck in multiple layers with just pinholes to see and breathe.

"Estimates have indicated that cars can generate about 25 gigabytes of data every hour and as much as 4,000 gigabytes per day. This data is often used by the automobile manufacturer to assess design and functionality issues in an attempt to improve their product line."

I'm sure there's a way to pop open a few panels and snip a few wires, if there's anything overly concerning going on in your vehicle.

Nah, the whole point was to not do anything to warrant getting pulled over. I was just curious if OnStar would alert the police that you're drunk and OnStar's word is all they have to go on.
