Anyone had this happen to them? I called dealer and they said they haven't heard of it and it would be hard to fix without them being able to reproduce it.

    Here's a video I took: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nDHjqus2I7wp5gmFwr8suNG0MPiTxJDm/view?usp=sharing

Here's the description of the issue:

I loaded the bed up with trash and drove to the dumpster. I put the truck in park, but left it running. I exited and got in the bed of the truck to unload the trash. When I was done, I tried to get back in the truck but the drivers door was locked. The first thing I noticed was that the power mirrors were still out. They'd normally fold in if the truck was locked. Also, the truck was still running. I pulled the keyfob out of my pocket and tried to use the unlock button but nothing happened. Then I hit the lock button and nothing happened. I was eventually able to get in by going around to the passenger door. It was unlocked and I opened the door and pressed the unlock button inside the cab. Then the drivers door unlocked and I was able to get in.

Weird, usually the drivers door is the one that won’t lock even when the others do.

That specific thing hasn't happened to me, however if I get out of my truck with the key fob, while it's running and walk around to the passenger side door to get my wife out of the truck (without unlocking ALL doors), her door won't open. Even if I have the FOB in my hand, next to the door handle, I can't unlock her door. She has to hit the unlock switch on her door just like you showed. The door locks on this truck are extremely weird.

Strange. Maybe pull the battery out of the FOB to reset? Don't forget there's a manual key in the FOB in case it happens again and all the doors are locked.

Yes! Same issue as TFRK9 on 5 or 6 occasions. Driver side door locked with fob in the truck and all 3 other doors open

Anyone else having similar random locking issues?

I’ve talked to several folks reporting similar issues and most being turned away by dealerships stating they have never heard of the problem and can’t reproduce it so nothing can be done.

    It’s happening in 2023 and 2024 Tundras.

Call Toyota National Customer Service, report it and get a case # 1-800-331-4331

I have only noticed it when I exit the vehicle while leaving it running. Are you guys leaving your vehicles running? Or is it happening to you even if you kill the engine and exit the vehicle without locking it?

It will happen after you exit with engine running and when you exit with engine off. It is random and not consistently repeatable. I park in a very small parking lot at work that is very secure so I’m able to leave my fob in the vehicle with the doors unlocked so I’m able to go in and out of the truck during the day if needed. A day or two after owning he truck i started randomy being locked out (drivers door only). Then it progressed and would happen randomly when i exited with the truck running. I’ve played with it leaving FOB in the truck and taking it out and it will do it both ways.

I am very deep in this repair with Toyota if you will contact me directly it will help your case and everyone else having similar issues.

Mine is a 2023. Have had many “unusual” door locking / unlocking episodes. Strangest one was I once, in my garage, intentionally left the key fob on the center console while I got out and to go in the house and get my phone then quickly return. I turned the truck off, visually verified the fey fob ( this was when I still had only one fob) was on the console, got out of the truck, pressed the unlock button three times, visually verified the door unlock button, and then shut the door. Was back to the truck within 60 seconds. Started to get in and all doors were locked. Key fob in the truck. I am sure the doors were unlocked when I shut it. And, even if I somehow hit the lock button unintentionally, every vehicle I have owned for the last decade would not let me lock a smart key fob inside the vehicle. Crazy

Thankfully, I had my phone in my pocket and was able to unlock it through the Toyota app.

If the car is running the mirrors never fold in when it locks. Also, if a car is running it disables all buttons on the key fob. Those two things are completely normal in my experience with all my vehicles. The random locking obviously is a different story.

Fortunately I haven’t had this problem so far.
That said, I never remote start my truck and have only used the App to unlock or lock doors once.
I’ve never left my fob in the truck for an extended period of time.
I’ve rarely left the truck running when I’m not in it.
I also disengage the fob after I lock the truck, so it stops transmitting. Therefore, I’ve rarely used the keyless entry, or whatever it’s called when you just tough the door handle. I just unlock it with the button in the fob like older vehicles.

Have you folks tried disconnecting the negative terminal of your battery?

Is it that the truck is having trouble determining if the FOB is inside or outside of the vehicle?

I have been to dealer 3x for repair they have tried multiple fixes with no success. They are sending in outside Toyota Tech on Jan 3. They have no reports Nationally of these events but obviously they are happening. Owners are being shut down at the dealer level because the issue is random and not consistently repeatable. My dealer was able to see it happen two times while they had the truck. I have lots of info on the issue and Toyotas response. Anyone having locking and unlocking issue even remotely close to this please email me and then lets talk on the phone. K9Smithey@gmail.com

Mine has done it a couple of times. The first few times I thought it was something I did. Then it did it at the dump.

I wonder if any of the occurrences can be related to the notes in the owners manual?

As far as the notes and manual above, that has all been investigated. It has happened to me in a field approx 5 miles from any other structure, power lines, etc. My case and most issue is it only locks the drivers door (randomly). it has nothing to do with a bad key FOB or door actuator either.

As far as sharing the info, I’m trying to. I have explained what’s going on with my truck and others have confirmed. I have at least 8 hours of direct communication with Toyota and different levels and trying to write out all the details would take way too long. I’m looking for folks with similar issues so we can talk directly and put our dealerships, Toyota national all in contact with each other. They “Toyota” know there is an issue but they do not have the complaints to fully investigate. Mine is the first I was told that has gone to this level. People that have it happening need to take videos in detail. I have dozens of my own and I will say the first outside video of it happening to another very new Tundra I showed them on Monday and was sent off to Toyota the response was “holy shit.” Again, my email is K9Smithey@gmail.com

Most people probably aren't going to want to talk to you on the phone for various reasons. I think we'd be more successful continuing communication on this forum. Perhaps you can send a link to this post to your direct Toyota contact? I'd be happy to speak to anyone at Toyota that you want me to. I visited the dealer yesterday with my video and the mechanic told me that he has sent videos to higher ups in Toyota before they say the videos are useless. They have to be able to reproduce on their own. So in other words, I am not getting any traction at all on my issue. I was locked out again today but this time my truck wasn't running. That is the first time it's happened to me with the truck not running. Also, the key fob stays in my pocket ALWAYS.

Just curious if you checked the settings under vehicle. It can be set to unlock all doors when shifted to park. Also the mirrors only fold in when the truck is off and you lock from your fob, not by locking the door from the switch. I have a 22 and have never had this type of issue

Actually a couple folks have reached out and I did the same like you and gave them my contact info and we talked and now working together which adds pressure on Toyota. You know you’re able to dial * and a couple digits and it blocks your number where I would never see it. I know it can be scary to make a phone for help and information with getting a 60K+ truck fixed but to each their own if you don’t want the help thats ok if you do give me a call. I was locked out again today too. They did reproduce the issue 2x while that had my truck and they have been very receptive to the videos locally and nationally.
