So I am installing Sumo springs on my 2020 CM Limited TRD Off Road, and was hoping someone here could supply me with the correct torque specifications for the U bolts.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I believe it's 74ft lbs if you're using new OEM U bolts and from what I've read don't reuse the old ones.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. It does seem that not reusing the U bolts is strongly advised, my springs just got substantially more expensive.

So a late arrival. $66 Canadian apiece in Calgary. Almost the same price as the Sumo Springs. Wow.

@MadTrapper I've had the black Sumo's for almost four years now, still like them and yes I would buy again.

    What color did you buy?

Dang. I usually run down to my buddy's spring shop and he bends me whatever u-bolts I need for $10/ea! I need to take him some beer! I just installed some air bags last week and the brackets required that I remove the stock bumpstops, which are captured under the u-bolts.

I know that the book answer is to not re-use u-bolts, but I wasn't about to go source new u-bolts in the middle of an install. So, I re-used mine. It's my truck, and my risk to calculate. But, I snugged the down, drove on the air bags for 4 or 5 days, then crawled back under the truck and snugged 'em down again today. I couldn't tell you what the torque spec is on new u-bolts, but I can say that I have never put a torque wrench onto a u-bolt in life. I've always just tightened them by hand and probably get anything 5/8" or bigger somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 ft./lbs. Little less "umph" on smaller u-bolts. But, I've been turning wrenches, building hot rods and rock crawlers for the past 25 years, and haven't had anything come apart. Nor have I broken a u-bolt. Replace them if they're heavily corroded, sure, but just because I have to loosen some doesn't necessarily dictate that I replace them. This is just my $0.02, and it's worth what everyone paid for it. Just chiming in, since I had a wrench on my u-bolts today, and just saw this thread...

Just a note. I called the dealership near me and after giving my VIN he said it was at 74ft lbs.

I like this response because I did not replace my u-bolts with Sumo spring install. Didn't know that was a thing.

You’ll see as much play on this as an oil change thread. Some people will replace a u-bolt every time a wrench touches it, and some will replace them when they look like shit or don’t torque down nicely. They’ll both tell you they’re right.

I don’t think either of them are really wrong though…

Ubolts are designed with rolled threads that are a one time use.
