I have a 2012 Tundra Double Cab and need to locate a tailgate for it. Does anyone know which year models will fit a 2012 Double Cab? I know they are different from the crew cab. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!

2007-2013 will fit. The tailgate is different on a crew max than on a double cab? Are you sure?
@Hightide is the tailgate expert around here so he would know better.

I was told the one on the Double cab is just a bit taller. Forgot the reason to be honest, but thank you so much for the info.

Oh crap, I’m an expert at soooo many things!

@War Machine is correct, 07-13 will fit.
    Cab configuration does not matter.

I really don’t think that’s the case. I’m pretty positive there’s no difference.

The 2007-2013 is considered 2nd Gen Tundra. Any tailgate from these years should be interchangeable. The cab configuration just denotes bed length for the most part. Crew max is a 5.5ft bed while double cab is a 6.5ft bed. A tailgate off an 8ft (long bed) should even work.

The 2014-2021 is the 2.5 Gen Tundra and the only difference bed/tailgate wise is styling. It is more of a square look as opposed to the earlier rounded style of 2nd Gen. Size is compatible between all 2nd and 2.5 Gen. I have an entire 2016 bed/tailgate on my 2007 truck for instance.

Will a tailgate from a 2 fit a 2.5? Have no intention, just kind of curious.

I think the tailgates are the same for '07 to '13. The paint maybe a little mismatched though. I replaced my 2012 Tailgate with a 2010 both Super White. The 2010 looks a bit faded/yellow compared to the 2012, but at least it didn't have a huge dent in in.

I’ll tell you what surprised me. I have no idea who makes it or quality but if it-boned my tailgate I’d be looking pretty hard at RockAuto replacement for only $410 Canadian. That’s like $365 USD. Darn cheap if you want to fix stupid without getting insurance involved.
