    Here’s one for you all.
Has anyone with a 3rd gen noticed a weird distortion with their windshield? If you look at the edges of a white car while sitting in traffic, you’ll see that there is a slight ripple. It’s hard to describe and I can’t capture it on video or with a photo. You might only be able to see it if you have good vision or are able to control how your eyes focus.
Does that sound crazy? I know I’m not imagining it, because this was happening with my last windshield too. I just got it replaced 2 weeks ago. Anyone notice this?

I just checked that link. I don’t have a head up display. It’s the entire windshield that does this.
I also notice it if I look at a power line when I’m sitting at a traffic light.

It's the Matrix. Now that you've seen it, watch for the visits from dark SUVs and the black choppers. JK of course. I haven't noticed this but I also wasn't looking for it - now I have to.

Assuming no coatings or tinting involved a defective windshield. I had a replacement a number of years ago that had a distortion right where the driver looked. The installer concurred and replaced it. Just like anything man made windshields can have defects in a lot.

I assumed it was a defect too when I 1st noticed it in January (when I bought my truck). It’s something I could live with, so no big deal. My truck was built in Nov 2023, what are the chances that the replacement from April/ May would have the same defect.
If I were a windshield manufacturer, one of my priorities would be to shoot for optical clarity. I guess things work differently in the Matrix o_O

I don't have it with mine but my wife's car is terrible! I think it has something to do with the glass and how it is laminated. It is really noticeable when I look to the right while the car is moving and about 1/3 of the glass has vertical ripples.

i am going to go back to VW and see it the will change it! Apparently, the European builds of her model are much better.

Her car was built in Tennessee so the glass is probably coming from a source in the area. It may be that these guys make the glass for the Tundras as well as many other makes.

3 vehicles I’ve owned (Toyotas) with sound deadening glass have had that. Extra layers that I figured cause it. I don’t believe your SR5 OEM had that but your replacement may be the thicker glass. (OEM on Limited & Up)

Just read Car and Drivers 40k wrap up on their 2023. They noted a distortion over the center console viewable from certain angles. They paid $1850 out of pocket to replace it; no mention if they tried to warranty it

at $1850 for a limited windshield I wonder what the acoustic glass one in 1794, Platinum and Capstone runs...$$$ ugh...no way I'm replacing the windshield unless it gets cracked...I have astigmatism so everything looks a little distorted to me anyway lol...unbelievable that C&D had a windshield so distorted it required replacement but I just watched their new you tube video and it was mentioned.
I'm pretty happy when it's reasonably clean and not cracked...so it sounds crazy to me that it's even a thing...ocd rules the day when you stare down big $ for a truck I guess...

My windshield got replaced by Toyota under warranty because it developed a stress crack. It’s an OEM windshield that took one month to get delivered.
Just to be clear (no pun intended), the distortion I see is very subtle. It doesn’t hinder visibility in any way. I was just pointing out that there is something in the manufacturing of these windshields that’s a little off. Never seen this in any car I’ve been in.

I see it now :( that's just foul. Its like a bubble in the center and slightly distorts straight edges of a building hard to capture on a phone camera but your eyes will catch it eventually. Can't stop looking at it now:facepalm:

Sorry dude- and to everyone else that was blissfully unaware.
I’m a carpenter, and I constantly notice little defects in things. My wife says I’ve ruined everything for her- she notices all that stuff now too.

Yep, I have this issue too. Highly annoying and causes fatigue on long drives.
