That's weird. Maybe because your truck is heavier. I am at about 56,000 miles on my Coopers and there is still a lot of miles left. And I actually work them hard.

Thats probably it. My truck is 2k lbs heavier and most likely tow a bit more miles with mine (I don’t daily drive mine, Tow or snow only).

Anyone running these in 305/65R18? I'm considering dropping down in size from 295/70R18 STT Pro's. I do alot of towing (7500 lbs TT) andwant some low end grunt back but want to keep a some what aggressive look.

The 305/65 is only 2% smaller than the 295/70 but 3.4% wider. I am not sure if there will be significant low end grunt increase, maybe a little, but the wider tire will have more resistance canceling that out, and increase fuel consumption. That being said, I think the wider tire will actually look better.

Not exactly, but I'm running a 305/70 17 so overall the same dimensions or very very close to what you are talking about. 20210622_071119.jpg

    Thanks for the breakdown Boerseun.

Pillslinger... Do you tow with them? How do the tires perform for you? What are your thoughts because I'm on the fence.

I have towed with them but literally it was a 14' utility trailer, maybe 100lbs on the tongue empty and a load of under 1000lbs for 20 miles. Keeping that in mind I love these tires. E load is stiff but I keep them at 40psi and I'm happy. Only complaint i have is the flat spotting issue discussed in this thread. Most mornings I have a steering wheel wobble for the first mile or two then all good. As others have said these are really quiet for ATs. I have to roll down my window or turn off the radio and climate control on a quiet stretch of road to hear them. Disclaimer: I've only got 2500 miles on these. So take that for what it's worth.

That's my main issue as well. I don't drive every day, and when I do, the steering wheel wobble between 55-60 is a PITA, and goes on for awhile.

My truck sits alot because my daily commute is 80 miles and I've got a little Matrix for that duty. The flat spotting was a concern of mine based off what I read in the thread. Seems like the general consensus is they are great tires other than the flat spotting. Plus, these are basically the only E rated tire in 305/65 that doesn't weight a ton. My 295's are 70lbs each and I'm trying to save some rolling weight.

Toyo ATIII's are comparably low weight for their size (similar to Cooper AT3 XLT). Not all Cooper sizes are 3 peak rated, where the Toyo's are (if you need that, or are interested in that).

Do you know if the Toyo's ATIIIs have any flat-spotting issues? I assume it is a common problem on most AT tires as I had the same thing on my KO2s ('07 4runner).

My wife has them on her 4R. It's a daily for her, but I haven't noticed any issues when we took it down to vacation and it would sit for a couple of days at a time. I will likely put them on my Tundra this fall in a 295/70 18.

As a side, while we were on Vacation, my Tundra sat for 10 days roughly. I didn't notice a wobble or anything when driving it (maxed at 55mph on my 3mi commute to work when we returned). 275/70 18 KO2s with 50K on them. So, maybe I'm just not as tuned-in to flat spots, if there were any. My Grandad gave me his 79 Coupe DeVille (last of the big blocks). Nothing on the road floats like that. So I just assume everything else has a bump or shake in it.

Thanks for the feedback. I have the Cooper AT3 XLT 295/70 R18s on my Tundra and I'm not looking at changing anytime soon. However, I am thinking about the Toyo ATIIIs as my next set of tires. I'm not crazy about Goodyear buying Cooper so I will be a little hesitant to buy the Coopers next go round.

You're welcome. and with respect to the BOLD:

Are they 3 peak snowflake rated in that size? I cant seem to find a definitive answer on that.

This 100%. I'm glad I got the coopers when I did. I've already accepted that they won't be an option next time or quality will suffer significantly. It's the reason I'm still tuned into this thread, watching for feedback. Based on reviews I was torn between the Toyos and the Coopers. I assume I will be going with the Toyos next go around too.

I remember when I researched these that they are not 3 Peak rated but the Toyos ATIIIs are...that really wasn't a decision factor for my use though.

For you guys that are concerned about them being bought by Goodyear, any idea when we might start seeing Goodyear Cooper’s? I’m getting tires this month and these have been at the top of my list. Now y’all are making me second guess myself!

I run 18” wheels. Aren’t yours 20”? Maybe more sidewall rubber makes a difference…don’t know.

    A bunch
My truck sits quite a bit since I fly for work, never had the slightest vibration from them - would get flat spots quite often in the stock Michelins from those times sitting. I just have the regular ATIII's, not the LT one's though.

It’s getting close to time for new tires for myself. I currently have Toyo AT2 and am right at 50k miles right now. They have been a great tire. I was considering the Wildpeaks until I looked up the weight. Like you mentioned they are a heavy tire. I may end up going with the new Toyo AT3 but only draw back is they are spendy!

I think they will be okay for now. Goodyear bought Cooper but will run the Cooper brand as a subsidiary, rather than just absorbing them into the Goodyear line. I don't think they will mess with rubber compound, tread pattern etc. that will make the Coopers inferior.

Alright guys, I need some help/opinions. I’m about to pull the trigger on some tires and these have been at the top of my list. But here’s my hesitation…on all the trucks I’ve owned, I’ve never gone above stock tire size or an E rated tire. Right now it looks like the closest to stock size I can find these in is 275/70/18, up from stock 275/65/18. I’m on completely stock 17 TRD OR. The service manager at my buddy’s shop is trying to talk me out of these because he says the E rated tire will be terrible since I don’t tow. Can’t I just air down some to soften the ride?

My other concern is that these are 17 pounds heavier than the stock Michelin’s. Is that going to be hugely noticeable?

Thanks for any input. I’m not a tire guru at all, so just wanna make the right decision. I’ve always had good luck with Coopers and I’ve read great reviews about these. My backup plan is to just go stock size in the Wildpeaks.

I guess my obvious question is why do you want to go with larger tires? Appearance? How do you use your truck…mostly street?…off road?…snow?
For sure comparing E rated tires to stock they will be heavier, reduce gas mileage, ride worse, cost more, and I doubt you can reasonably air down enough to match a stock ride without dramatically affecting the tire’s performance, safety, and life.
If you have been happy with stock appearance, ride, and performance then that seems the most logical direction…then again, what the heck do I know as I can’t follow my own advice? I went with Cooper Discoverer XLT AT3, 295/70 R18s. To each his own and best of luck.

Love mine but the flat spot thing drove me nuts played with the air pressure and went down to 32 psi no more wobbling steering wheel in the mornings

Appreciate the reply. I don’t necessarily want to go larger or E rated, but these don’t come in stock size. My driving is 99% pavement. I do very little off road, but that may change soon as I want to start taking my kids camping.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say part of the reason for wanting these tires is the look. I’m getting my stock OR wheels powder coated black and I think these tires would look awesome with those.

The stock Michelins are ok. They’re worn out and I need new tires anyway, but the one snowstorm we had last year they weren’t that good. And I did have some traction problems on the gravel road we have to take to get to the cabin we rent frequently.

Like I said, I’ve always liked Coopers and since I need tires anyway, figured I’d give these a look. Plus the reviews I’ve read have been very positive.
