    Too many, but not enough....
Not sure why this is considered revolutionary, couldnt you just buy a cheap trailer and load like 5000 lbs into it with a tongue weight of like 500 lbs? Not sure I am getting the idea here maybe???? :notsure:

    Pretty things
Seems like a niche product, but a cool enough idea.

Personally, for $5-$8K, I will be picking up a beefy trailer and keeping all of the heavy/annoying stuff out of my truck.

I just see this device always being in my way. Even when it's not hooked up.

I’m surprised this thread isn’t 500 pages long and talking about Elon musks new diet plan yet.

This is an adaptation from heavy haul trailers. Common terms are spreader or stinger. I've worked on the design for a few. Biggest concern here is that you're really pushing the brink of tongue weight for class 4 systems. The Tundra (not sure of other brands) also use a hydroformed crossmember which droops downward. That geometry was likely optimized for downward tongue weight, as well as lowering the receiver. There may be unwanted stress concentrations when reversing load. This also doesn't account for dynamic loads, or excess loads, like backing up inclines. Hope those bags have relief/dumping.

It's a neat application, just not sure how many would pursue this over a trailer. Heavy haul loads use these, especially given certain state/bridge laws, to keep axle loads lower, not to increase trailer capacity. Which makes me then question a 1/2 ton's frame response when the bed is overloaded.

Tags are different in that they're fixed and will just share the suspension bag pressure line. Spreaders have a pivot (easier to turn) and are adjustable on the amount of load for lift. The OP's is kind of a mix since it doesn't pivot but has an air bag at the tongue. End goal is the same. Does it make sense for a 1/2 ton market? Dunno. You'd assume the OP did a proper market study since he's already invested in IP and press... I would rather unload an oversized pallet from a trailer than have to unhook a spreader from the hitch to get a fork truck in.

I missed Pro Blanco's post - he has a picture of a spreader. Jeeps are actually placed at the front of the trailer and act as a load divider for the king pin.

Jeeps, spreaders, and tags. I used to be contracted to wash the equipment at Precision Heavy Haul.
If it does what the dude says, and if the price is right (much less than a cheap trailer) than hel probably do very well.

Too bad it's only Wednesday. We may need to form a committee to explore whether we can start a poll a couple days early.

How do you load and unload the bed with this thing in the way? Or do you overload it, then hook the thing up. Drive the sketch-mobile to its destination and then unhook the thing to unload it? That’s twice your bed will be bottomed out touching axle to frame. How do you load a pallet in the back with a fork lift? Do you have to have E rated tires on the truck already to use this application? What’s the dynamic load capacity of the bed of the truck? This wouldn’t change that at all. I don’t get it. If your gonna hook a magic trailer up, why not just hook a trailer up? When I get where I’m going and I can unhook said trailer and not have to unload said trailer immediately to use my truck for something else. I understand the problem, just don’t see how this solves it.

I think you need to assemble a task force to see if a study should be done to form the committee to explore whether you can start a poll a few days early. That's after you do the environmental study.

GVWR of the vehicle - current weight is your payload
Just have enough room in the pay load for 10k tongue weight and you can then you can tow roughly 7.5k of extra weight of payload in the trailer.
The GVCWR of The Tundra is 17,198lbs
