Well I've been super happy with the truck until this Wednesday when I got several system Alerts!

    Here are the Alerts:
    • Advanced Ultrasonic Detecting and Ranging System.
A malfunction in the Intelligent Clearance Sonar System has been detected. Do no rely on this system.

    • Parking Support Brake Malfunction

    • Check Engine
A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected.

Took it to the dealer today and had 2 senior techs looking at it for over 3 hours trying to figure out whats going on. Was told it was showing Lean Bank 1 code and running hot. I took it easy driving it to the dealer today while watching gauges and didn't notice any engine temps out of range. They asked me if I put e85 in it by mistake which I didn't! I use the same gas stations and no one near me even sells e85.

I have searched but if anyone as any thoughts or threads it would be greatly appreciated. Techs said they haven't seen this on any other 3rd Gen Tundras.

yes this stinks please keep us informed sounds like they were looking at fuel right away
I'd look for an intake leak or vacuum leak causing lean condition...thinking all these cool electronics are going to be a nightmare out of warranty $$$

On my previous truck (2019 Ridgeline) It was working great then one day, I got in and all the warnings were up on the dash. It turned out the a rodent chewed a rear abs wire. It was a simple repair once they figured out what it was.

Most of these systems are connected or related and if one sensor is out, then all the others go crazy.

As far as the engine temp, that doesn't seem plausible that it is connected to the sonar but it might be a way to slow the truck down while the system is not working. Toyota Safety Sense 2.X could be involved!

I hope they figure it out but I would look for something simple like a wire leading to a sensor.

Be careful, there was one other post here with similar unknown CEL where dealership said the gasoline smelled sweet inside of the tank, they then blamed owner that someone put something into the gas tank which damaged the engine, and they would not warranty it. It was just first gas fill up that was provided by the selling dealer...

Just to cover your bases, I suggest you ask them to provide a sample of the gasoline that's inside of your tank right now, so if they have any questions or accusations, you can send it for testing to proove that you didn't do anything wrong.

Otherwise they may try to drain your fuel tank and refill it, and then blame you that previously gas was bad and it's your fault. A bit paranoid... But it did happen before

Good point Kap 1. I actually have a mpg log of my last 3 fill-ups and credit card receipts where fuel was purchased. I told the dealer I keep a detailed log of mpg and fuel. I also told them I bought fuel for my mower from the same station within a few days and have a gas can that I pulled a sample from. I didn't see any indications of bad fuel. I sent them my mpg log and said there was no way it was bad gas as my last tank was almost 18mpg @ 404 miles with no engine issues other than the CEL. If the fuel was bad there is no way I would get these mpg numbers and no engine hesitation/issues. The CEL came on at the 321 mile mark on the last tank of fuel and I filled up the day I took it in so there's around 25+ gallons in the tank. So far the dealership has been great and very transparent. They were able to get me a 2024 Tundra Limited as a loaner and I do not plan to return it until the truck is fixed. The nice thing about the connected Toyota app is I can see when doors are unlocked, hood is open and test drives are done. I also get notifications when they are connecting to the truck.

I will update this thread as info comes in to help others and to close the loop once it gets fixed.

This is my first Toyota and I was loving it before all this. Hopefully they get this figured out soon

My 2024 Platinum Hybrid had something similar happen at like 750 miles except it went into limp mode until I shut it off and turned it back on. Turned out to be a bad catalytic converter.

Dealership ordered a replacement and repaired it under warranty and haven't had an issue since

....until someone drilled a hole in my gas tank, but that's obviously a different issue :(

Do not trust the dealer for a second. They are not your friend. It sounds like you have done a good job documenting what you can, but that won’t stop a dealer from making a “professional determination” that Toyota will use against a warranty claim. Good on you for thinking to save the sample, but you would have to prove that gas can sample is the same gas you put in. Toyota corporate screwed the other guy and he’s going to have to take legal measures to get his money back after paying for the repairs. Either way, it’s going to cost him a lot.

I was told today it is the air fuel ratio sensor. Part is on order and should be here this week. They said I could come get the truck until the part arrives, however, I told the dealer I did not feel comfortable driving the truck until it is fixed. Dealer had no problem with that and has been great with communication. I also started a case with Toyota but that was done before the dealership called about the A/F sensor.

Do you mind posting the dealership for others future reference? Sounds like you have a rare good dealer there wherever you are. Glad they are treating you right

I got the truck back today! The dealership I used was Longo Toyota of Prosper, Tx
Here is the info on the fix.
Code P219519 A/F sensor signal stuck lean bank 1 sensor 1 short circuit in sensor b1s1

They Replaced Bank 1 sensor 1 A/F sensor and cleared the codes. They kept it an extra half day to drive it several times to make sure there were no codes.

Thanks for update Brian. Any further update since you have the truck back and are driving it?

I had the same problem last weekend. 2024 Tundra SR5 4WD, 1500 miles. I was 500 miles from home visiting friends. Left the house, at about 5 minutes into 10 minute drive, was beginning to accelerate up to 50 mph on straightaway when engine started lugging and same alarms and alerts you mention popped up (Engine Check, Reduced Power, Malfunction in electronic control..., Advanced Ultrasonic Malfunction, Parking Support Brake Malfunction).
Could not get above 20-30 mph, lugging and vibrating. Finished drive and parked car.

Came back to truck about 3 hrs later, started and drove, no evidence of problem, all normal. A couple days later drove home 500 miles, took it to Toyota service next day. They've had it now for 36 hours, still no clue, can't recreate it but they "see the event" in the log. Asked me if Truck had been loaded with weight and/or towing, said "No" to both. I advised them of your service technician's fix, we'll see... They're going to drive it around and try to recreate it but so far they have not been able to. They also mentioned checking fuel, but said it was OK.

I'm a long time Toyota owner (40 yrs) but this does not make me feel warm and fuzzy... thanks again for your forum entry, Jerry

I have been driving it (about 1k miles) with no further issues. I didn’t have the reduced power alert you mentioned and mine seemed to be driving fine after the check engine light came on. There was an engine code on mine so it seems it might be a slightly different issue. Hopefully they figure it out.

Thanks, Brian. Right - looks different. They called me an hour ago and are giving the truck back to me. They see the reduced power in the log, but cannot recreate the problem.
    All the Best!
