Should I Buy This Rare RCSB Low Miles Tundra?

I've been on the hunt for a 2007-2013 rare RCSB 5.7L 4x4 TRD Tundra for months now. Although I have found a few of them, they all faired poorly in an a pre-purchase inspection.

However, about a month ago, in another state, I found a 2007 RCSB 5.7L 4x4 TRD SR5 (bucket seats and console shifter) with 60K miles with 1 owner, no accidents, personal use only and 45 service records at the same dealership he purchased it from. He literally got service ONLY at his Toyota dealership done every six months regardless of how many miles he had on it. I've never seen such a clean Carfax in my life.

The owner traded the truck in for a new SUV and the dealership put it up for sale. I jumped on it within minutes of the ad being put up. I was set to buy it but that dealership had to do a full inspection on it to make sure it could be sold retail. After the inspection they told me the truck had been used to tow a boat, the back of the truck was dipped in the ocean when bringing the boat in from the ocean to tow it. He said the rear end was rusted and the brake lines were rusted and had salt in the brake lines. They said they can't sell it retail to me and it will be sold wholesale.

Fast forward a few weeks and I see the same truck at a small dealership not that far from the original dealership it was at. I called the small dealership and asked the sales guy if it was the same truck, he confirmed it was the same truck, he picked up a wholesale, but he said he replaced all of the brake lines and a few hoses but the truck was in great shape no issues. I had the salesman take the truck to a Toyota dealership for a full multi point pre-purchase inspection (I paid $158). I was curious to see just how bad the truck was because I was in disbelief after seeing such a clean carfax. The Toyota tech completed the inspection and said the truck was great, frame was good and no problems. They did not put a single problem on the report, I was shocked, even the salesman was shocked, he said they usually have a laundry list of issues no matter how clean a vehicle is.

I included a video clip the service tech sent me and the multi point inspection sheet I was given. I asked the Toyota service tech about the rear end rust I was told about by the previous dealership. The Toyota tech said it was minor surface rust on the rear diff, he said the frame was good, no issues. He also said, looking back in the service history in the Toyota computer system, the frame was treated with anti-corrosive by Toyota that was covered under warranty. I included a pic of the frame that I was given.

I even called the Toyota dealership where the owner bought it and regularly serviced the truck. They said they knew the truck well and that it was a great truck (I did this when I wanted the truck at the first dealership).

Should I buy this truck? Any concerns? Any advice would be appreciated. I have not seen it in person and going solely off of the Toyota tech report. It is nearly impossible to find a 100% rust free RCSB 5.7 4x4 TRD. This is as good as I have found thus far.

UPDATE: I bought the truck! Just waiting for it to be shipped.

NOTE: The owner of the truck brought it in to his Toyota dealer the day before he traded it in and had the alternator and serpentine belt replaced. A full brake job was done just a couple thousand miles back. There is zero maintenance needed for the truck as it should be with a great truck owner. Cheers to the previous truck owner, his stellar service records has motivated me to be a better vehicle owner. lol I will continue his service record with this truck, every 6 months get it serviced at the dealership.

Definitely should NOT buy it. Instead, you should send the dealership's number so that I can harangue them about selling such a pile.. to me.. :anonymous:

That rust isn't insignificant on the axle and leafs, but the actual frame seems pretty good. I think you could just apply some rust converter to alot of that and run it, then replace anything as needed. The actual chassis at with those miles should be great. If the price is right and not a daily (so you have options) why not go for it.

Thanks for the feedback. That's what I was thinking too. I was thinking about taking it to that place in Canada that is called Honey seal, they remove any surface rust and out the Honey seal on it and it is supposed to last a long time. This truck will not be driven much, I might do a truck camper build. I will definitely follow the previous owner's schedule of servicing it every 6 months, something I never usually do.

lol Somebody actually did that on one of the RCSB trucks I was looking to buy, took it from my grasp. I tried to haggle with salesman and he put me on hold and sold it to the next guy. However, I'm glad I didn't get that one, it had 107k miles and two owners and not nearly as clean of a Carfax service record. I was upset for while but they always say something better comes and I'm glad I held out. The deal is done, now waiting for it to be delivered. I hope its good. lol
