Yea I’ve had to ban certain snacks to keep the mess to a minimum, plus have a seat cover in the back to help keep the mess down. But it seems no matter what I do it’s always a mess!

Most modern garage door openers operate at 315 Mhz, which is the same frequency as our FOBs. Just saying.

There are plenty of cheap scanners that will receive in that range. Get a handheld and listen to see what you can find. The signal will be stronger close to the source and you can narrow down the problem that way. I had some odd interference on radio (I'm a HAM radio operator) and on my TV back in the days of analog TV. I tracked it down to the doorbell transformer. Nowadays, a lot of wireless home alarms operate in the 315mhz range.

If this turns out to actually be due to EMF interference, I will eat my humble pie and donate $50 to OP’s charity of choice.

.. but I’ll bet nobody looked at the battery connection *at the starter* or the ground cable terminations yet.

Custom bug spat pattern hood, grill & bumper. Dead Live Oak leaf collection under hood, cowl and lower fenders. Beach sand custom floor covering.
That might be handy. Open door, truck starts.

RF is everywhere. As stated earlier, specs state the system must handle noise. Smells like the receiver in the truck is not filtering the noise out.

I've banned ALL food in mine. I won't even grab drive-thru on the way home. If they want me to bring dinner after work I drive home, get the Highlander, and then go to the drive-thru. I had the same rule for my 2007 that lasted about 6-7 years. Goes without saying but I get a lot of dirty looks and eye rolls.

If the signal strength of interference is strong enough for one vehicle why not all vehicles?

Another test would be to park it somewhere else near home to see if it still occurs.

Came here looking for the reason the fan in my ham rig would surge when I let off the accelerator in my 2023 SR5, and found this thread, so thanks for that! I was puzzled of course because traditionally it would be a surge during acceleration, not on deceleration, but I totally understand the reasoning now.

Also, will offer this in terms of the fob not working. This was a well publicized case by the ARRL a few years ago:

    https://www.arrl.org/news/amateur-radio-sleuthing-pins-down-source-of-strange-rf-interference

    Maybe a little insight.

Having worked for a dealer, not Toyota, I can tell you Field Service Engineers (FSE) have equipment and access to things dealers might not have access to. I've heard it has to do with keeping certain things from other manufacturers, but who knows for sure. AS for RFI issues, this is not the first I have heard of and it is almost always location sensitive. I talked to one FSE and he had a car that would stall going around a certain corner on a street. After isolating it to that corner, which took a few weeks, they determined the power transformer on the power pole was emitting RFI that caused the car to shut off. After contacting the City to inform them it needed changing, they explained to the car owner she could just take a different route as they were to expensive to swap out for just one complaint. No surprise there.
I hope they figure out what the cause is and are able to eliminate it so everyone is happy!
