I’m pretty casual for the most part also. I’ve reached an age where it’s about shutting my mind off and vegging out for a few hours. There’s only been a handful of games I’d say I was ever exceptional at. I did get to top 6% worldwide on The Division. For some reason that one just really clicked with me and I played it pretty much nonstop for a year or two. You couldn’t really get “OP” in that game though.

I tend to burn a ton of hours doing all the side stuff in these games, then blow through the story once I get bored. It drives my son crazy that I do this. He sent me this a while back:

It was on Xbox game pass when I tried it. No idea if it still is though.

It's online, yes, but you can play alone without anyone else on your server. Or you can give ppl an invite code and have many ppl join. Pretty cool the way they have it set up.

Driving the kid nuts is just a bonus at this point, right?

Ah, I still wouldn't have seen it. I'm only on the Sony console.

Never heard of it. Who puts it out?

I get lost in side quests too but I'll still throw time at the main story so I don't get bored grinding. Witcher 3 is a classic example where that happens for me.

I did what you do in FFVII (original) and made short work of endgame bosses. Sephiroth was my bitch.

Capcom. The original came out in 2012 and I never thought they’d make a sequel. It’s got some somewhat unique game mechanics, especially when the first one came out.
You create a character and a “pawn” which is a follower that always stays with you. You can hire other players pawns to fill out your party and yours also gets hired out which helps it level up. It’s an action RPG with elements of Shadow of Colossus mixed in.

The Playstation 5 is definitely nothing to sneer at. What Sony has done in the console market is nuts. Dominate is a good word for it.

It was a facetious shame face. Hard to convey it with my brain going to sleep on me. Still, I am not techie enough for PC and I prefer the PS line to the XBox for both controllers and library.

See, I'm the opposite. I don't have enough fingers for all the buttons on these new controllers. Give me back the NES and Atari joystick and I'll tear it up.

The irony is I'm a PC gamer and a keyboard has how many "buttons"? WASD & number keys are all I really use though.

I haven't played that one yet, either. I started reading the books some time ago, but didn't get through all of them. I also watched season 1 of the show shortly after it released, but I stopped there. I just started into The Last Wish again a few days ago as I don't remember a lot of it. I'm dedicated this time as I want to start into the games after I finish reading them, and I'm already about 70% through TLW. I also started the first game way back when it released, but I don't remember much of it. I might skip it, also for the graphics reason. But I don't think that'll be a problem, because apparently Geralt doesn't remember any of it, either lol.

I heard the game & Netflix show don't adhere too closely to the books.

This one is high on my list, too. But I'm also a cheapskate :D. I may have bit on this on release if PC games were still cheaper than console, but now they're the same price. But then again, $70 might get me a cheeseburger, large fries, and large strawberry shake in Commiefornia.

I've become a casual gamer now as well. Can't do the MP stuff much anymore. Destiny was my last bout with that. When it was taking me 5 tries on Crota to land on a platform and drop a bubble to everyone's frustration having to wipe, and that was my only job, I knew it was time lol. But for this very reason I appreciate being over-leveled, and since I also enjoy doing all the side stuff and roaming around in open world games just because I can, becoming over-leveled is a bonus.

I do get annoyed though when games level-lock XP and weapons/armor upgrades, which kind'a ruins the leveling/roaming experience. That was my biggest gripe about GOW: Ragnarok. But then again, that wasn't exactly an open-world game, either.

I read the same, but I also read that there are enough references that it still enhances the experience.

I think the series should stick closely to the game since I love how that was done. Cavill stepped away from his role because the writers/producers were deviating too much from how he felt it should go. I probably won't watch the show now that he's no longer a part of it

At some point I stopped enjoying the challenging stuff. I just want to relax. I have no qualms about even lowering difficulty at points. My son plays those Dark Souls type games and that’s a big hell no from me. Probably the last really difficult games I played were the old Xbox Ninja Gaiden games.

Any time I didn’t get a reference I just googled it. I don’t think I have the stomach to play through 20 year old graphics anymore.

Same, although I did buy the dark souls stuff a few years ago. I played for about an hour before putting it down. Fortunately they were all dirt cheap on Steam. I tried going after all the Valkyries in God Of War early last year. Couldn't do it. I got through 3 of them and quit.

I can still play Ninja gaiden, though. Muscle memory on those, and also one of my all-time favorite game series. I picked them up when they released on PC.

I'm the opposite - I'm super techie (manage an IT team providing services to a schoolhouse). With that said...my son keeps trying to get me into PC gaming.

It's not that I don't want to. It's that I spend ALL DAY fixing sh*t on computers. When I come home, I want to be able to press *one* button and then play a game within 30 seconds or so....and if the machine breaks or the game has issues, I want the fix to be easy (e.g., uninstall/reinstall game, or replace console). I don't want to have to spend money to buy a new video card in order to be competitive.

Which is also part of why I don't do MMO. I thought it was fun for the first week or so until some 10 year old kid teabagged me and called me his b*tch. Given I have the technical knowledge to be able to probably figure out where they live, I figured it was better to just not do MMO. lol

Ditto. I have a buddy who adores Dark Souls and has beaten them multiple times. Same guy plays on hard mode and criticizes most games for being too simple - dude is usually stoned and mildly drunk too.

    LOL no - tried Fortnite.

Funny story afterwards, though. My son knew the kid (blocked him soon after).

He told the kid "You DO realize my dad can track you down?"

"I'm sorry sir! I'll never do it again!" LOL
