“new” used 2022 SR5 2wd — did I make a good choice?

Right on. This is going to be a mostly summer highway band tour truck, a kayak and canoe carrier, and a local hauler for property maintenance and renovation, landscaping, and furniture etc. No big campers or landscape trailers.

When I go to the mountains, I park and head in on foot

We have various Priuses around to take out in the snow.

The thing to remember that stopping and turning is the most important thing in the long run. Not going is frustrating but generally not a safety issue. (My wife is from Fairbanks AK so I do know about the survival needs of “going” but her brother drove an early 80’s Mercury Capri lol) Not stopping on the other hand….

    Yes this.

I’m very glad to be a teacher who doesn’t have to go in on bad days.

    Same

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
You know, exactly 2 posts later I corrected myself and even providing a citation but I am really glad you were able to react right away to add a sarcastic post to make yourself feel better and to show you're the top off road king SR driver on this forum.

Not sure that is true. I know someone I personally referred to Jerry for warranty that bought a fleet/rental used highlander with 30k on the clock. He sold them the platinum 10/125k warranty and 5/75k maintenance plan. I think as long as you are under 36k you're good for warranty and under 31k for maintenance.

There's certainly some risk with your used truck as you don't know it's history, oil changes (5k miles are recommended), and how hard it was used. The base model SR5 is usually discounted very well by the dealers, so I'm not sure if whatever you saved by buying used is really worth it... Carmax isn't cheap usually, so you saved maybe less than $5k if you find a good deal new?

You may be able to find some maintenance history by entering the vin number on Toyota website..

Hahaha "Way To Go"... my internet age (1990s IRC chat rooms) is showing.

And yes, those YouTube morons still have stupid faces.

OP asked a question, and everyone's providing their perspective in a very constructive and polite manner.

Will OP select an aftermarket crank kit or stick with OEM when the inevitable happens?

Around here, all the Tundras on the lots are very highly optioned — and I’d be priced out. maybe in other parts of the US/world there are more basic tundras.

This one had all the options I’d want and none I didn’t. I don’t have months to wait, my Tacoma was due for a round of work to keep it in service that I wasn’t planning to do.

I also needed a cap, and pretty much needed it immediately upon purchase so I could continue my weekend band gig schedule.

I was well aware that I was paying a few grand extra over what I “might” be able to find another Tundra for — but in such a nice color? With a very nice matching cap of the same brand I was intending to get?

I knew what I was getting into, even the risk of first model year. The bearing failures gave me pause after reading them on here (after purchase) but I am leaning towards accepting the risk. I’m loving the Tundra after my first two-gig weekend “tour”

Thanks. I’m definitely enjoying it and overall this thread has made me feel better about it and helped me not worry about it.
I knew what I was getting into when I posted. I was glad to see that the general tone of the responses has been encouraging.

I’ve got a thick skin. It’s all good. But it was decent for MrKABC to be kind to a newbie on the forum, and I appreciated that. :mudding:

Ok good that you thought about it all. Camper is a big plus... I had to pay $7k for mine and wait 4 months. So I get that.

Do consider buying factory Toyota warranty. If that engine bearing breaks at 65k miles, you'll be out of your powertrain warranty, and new Tundra engine is about $35k. Jerry sells it for about $2100 for 10 year/120k miles. Make sure you buy factory warranty only if you decide to buy it. I think you should be able to buy it before your current warranty expires.

@DarkStrr I did something similar to you. I bought a 2022 SR5 with 15k miles mainly because the cost. Funny enough, it is also a 2wd. I had debated if I needed 4x4 and came to the conclusion that I was not to planning on wheeling my daily driver. Did that with a jeep I owned and melted a valve..

Does your SR5 have the rear airbags and the 14” screen? Mine has some upgraded packages. I’m not sure if they are common with 2wd SR5s or if someone special ordered mine before trading it in.

Anyways, I have had my truck for 3 months and about 5k miles and I love it. I was worried at first about buying a used truck especially with all the people complaining on here but I have had no issues. I do plan on getting an extended warranty before I hit 36k just in case.

First gig weekend and PA gear load in/out was successful. Simsbury CT and North Haven CT. We play originals but this AiC song is a special one for a fan of ours.

I’m glad to see that I’m getting this advice here from a lot of users. Extended warranties and protection plans always seem to be scams or at least not worth it. I will look into it and consider it.

Yes, 14” screen and I believe the passenger air bags. It’s a nicely upgraded SR5. I’m not a tech oriented guy but I appreciate the large screen for sure.
