Based on what I have seen OPs payload is probably 1,400ish less any mods like steps, spray in bedliner or other additions. The tongue weight of that loaded trailer is probably at least 1,100 lbs. Add two people at 350 and you are looking at 1,450 with no mods or anything else in the truck. Do people on here run over payload? Oh yeah. Will the 3rd gen tow that weight better than the previous gen? Almost certainly. I wouldn't run that setup personally and if you can swing the money for the truck surely you can scrape together $600 for a decent WDH.

I would also at a minimum weigh the back axle loaded to make sure he's not exceeding the axle rating. Jmo.

I'm looking forward to reading more opinions from folks that have towed with both the F150 and the Tundra.

Have you tried adjusting the sensor yet? Sliding it all the way up allows the airbags to level at a much higher inflation.

I did that and not the point or issue I was attempting to make. I was simply noting the AVS is not an on demand system like air bags I and others have used to tow. It is a low speed adjustment . my plat is spot on for me, set good for towing etc.

Right, but it levels out much higher than standard which helps to push weight back up to the front axle.

I really enjoy vanilla ice cream. I prefer French vanilla but it's more expensive than regular vanilla.

The Question: does the quality of French vanilla ice cream justify the price increase over regular vanilla?

Yes, but only if eaten while using a weight distribution hitch.

well..maybe mine is defective (yeah..sarcastic..lol) but I get your explanation but but find mine is not “much higher than standard” when it senses a load..it simply …levels the load. It did not push the bed higher than when empty after I had loaded the bed with a 550 pound adventure bike but it did result with each rear fender being same height as before rolling the bike on. (We really are on same page except with where we find it levels to when load put on the system).

I was pointing out that the standard height has the bumpstops inches above the frame. Following the method linked, allows the airbag to inflate higher causing the rear to raise higher than it would normally do with ~1300lbs of payload.
