I figured I'd slip up and just say BG eventually. Lots of opportunities up here for me to get my name spread around in a good manner. Already made an excellent impression with the up, and coming maintenance manager, and the maintenance team lead. They know a shit load of good workers from here to Colorado. Both former military.

    Regarding corvettes, see below.
Having never been in a corvette of any kind that actually ran, or had an engine in it... I wouldn't know. I've been in a corvette body if that counts.

Traditional a mile long hood, sitting on top of the back tires looking through a gunners turret sight. Loose rear end, lots of power, more a muscle than a sports car. With the introduction of the C5 vette's, the sports part started to get serious. A better handling and driving car. The C8 is a departure from the formula. It's a new formula altogether, Rear engine, sitting on the front tires with great forward visibility. I thought they may even continue with the front engine version as a "classic" model along side the new one. They were running out of grip, had to go rear engine to keep up (with who? and why?). The Z06 version is coming out soon. It will be flat plane crank DOHC and potentially forced induction. That will shake the final remaining piece of the corvette lineage. The pushrod SBC. Cool car, but agree, not a Corvette.

Naw, the neighbors had an old C4 body, and chasis in their back yard I used to play in. Used to go in their row of cars and kill wasps for them. Built up a good immunity, but no brains.

My thoughts exactly but said in a more articulate way than I could. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see an awd z06 in the near future so it can actually use the 700ish horsepower.

I just spent 2 hours trimming the holy hell out of the rose bushes and such on my side yard. Trying to get chores knocked out so I'm open this weekend. My wife already agreed to a birthday party on Sunday for a friend, and now her sister wants to come over Sunday night and go to Universal on Monday day. The weekend that was promised to me as "work on truck" time is quickly eroding. Hopefully I can retain Friday night and Saturday. If weather permits maybe I can get a head start tomorrow night.

    @Tundra2 I repeat, don't get married

I'd say that gives you a make-up weekend, and a other free weekend for the inconvenience.

One thing my gf absolutely despises is the phrase "happy wife, happy life". She is all about the give and take and that both should be happy. She says "happy spouse, happy house". Plus she said she never wants to be married again either so we agree on that.

So I found out tonight that my new employer owns a house they let employees in need of stay in literally 120 yards from the building.

I wish I'd known that when we had that foul weather. Could have stayed here literally for free. Lol

A lot of hate for the new corvette in here.
I get the distinct feeling if they'd named it something else, no one would care and would laud it highly as it's far and away the best sports car the ol' bowtie ever produced.
As previously pointed out tho, with the introduction of the c5, the vette was clearly transitioning from muscle car to sports car. The c6 was another iteration 'forward'; the c7 another yet.
And just because they decided to press the envelope a bit more with the c8 and move the engine midships everyone piles on. I remember when the flip-up headlights going away on the c6 was the end of the world. Then everyone drove them and the headlights were forgiven.

Do you lot understand why Porsche won't put their top-tier motors in the Caymans? It's because mid-engine sports cars will always outrun front or rear engined cars. It's something that took far too many DECADES for everyone to learn from the Italians. (who still can't build a reliable car) F1, Indycar, LMP, etc. All the top-tier sports car racing organizations use mid-engined vehicles.

If you want to pile on the c8 for something, consider the interiors. Bowtie still either won't, or flatly can't, make a nice interior.

Also. The idea that the use of a manual trans as the only way to manage a car is tiresome. The manual is inferior in every way to a DCT. If I could [realistically] fit a DCT to my 43 year old 911, I totally would.

True on all aspects. And I agree dcts are faster, but I don't care about it being faster, as I assume most others don't. I just like rowing through gears and having something for my left leg to do.

Rowing thru gears is fun until you miss a gear and the car doesn't do what you need it to do.
As a person who drives a sports car for a lot of the year, I can tell you the manual gearbox doesn't add any romanticism to my commute or ripping through the tail of the dragon. I can tell you with 100% certainty that if I had a DCT instead of the 915 trans in my 911, I'd be faster and more confident through the Dragon. There are many places where a manual slows you down because you just can't shift fast enough to keep the rpms in the optimal range.

I realize it all comes down to personal preference.
Many of my friends think I'm a lunatic for considering selling my car for a more modern version with a DCT and heat and AC. Ideally I'd like to have both but...

The C8 is a sweet car. And it’s definitely an evolution of the vette more so than the electric mustang SUV. But if the 911 went front engine FWD would you look at it the same and accept that as a 911? The Vette was something, now it’s something else, barely recognizable from its former self. It’s amazing, just not “vette”. At least as we’ve always known it. Not hate.

Corvettes perform, no doubt. I haven't driven one newer than 04 but my observations are that Corvettes were of pretty crappy quality. The interiors rattle, the car is made of Tupperware, its a factory made kit car. They get surprisingly good fuel economy though.
