Another little project- wanted to try my hand at anodized purple accents.

And finally, brand new rear drums and shoes and hardware. The cost was.... 60 a piece for those giant rear drums. I took the time to apply high heat resistant paint, since they show and rust so fast. The hardest part here was the dumb little springs, since I do not have a cup tool to compress. But we got through it.

Adjusting them? well, I think I need to readjust them, this week. Get the feeling they are not biting as hard as they should be. Idk. Our tundra brakes suck in general, just search and find that info.

    20200409_204558.jpg
One good thing I did here was, to use 2 bolts to push off the old drum. No hammering required. Use torque instead, to break the seal.

    20200410_095341.jpg
Above, notice the 2 bolts, with a 6 point head, to use a socket and impact driver for ease. Pushed the old drum right off.

    20200410_095856.jpg
    Old terrible hardware and shoes.

    20200410_102332.jpg
Using brake grease to cushion each back plate before reinstall.

    20200410_112802.jpg
Full replaced hardware and ready to go!

Next up- ordered more LED pod lighting, 15 bucks for 8 lights, I mean. Come on.

Also have the new bushings for LCA, UCA ball joint, and tie rod end. Def will need an alignment and rear brake check after that. All good. I dont mind giving a professional the business when it comes to that sort of thing. For now, it drives pretty fuggin stable on the highway and that's where I spend most of my time.

Hey, Daniel, I’m appreciating your build!

Question: how’d you work out that a console from a Sequoia would fit? Can you point me to a source for this or tell me, if you know, will same-year Sequoias and Tundras always allow such swaps?

Trading out the small console in my 2002 Tundra for a larger version would be a great upgrade.

    Thank you for the compliment!.
I learned that the 2000-2005/6 Sequoia fit at least our first gen Tundras.
Salvage yard, like pick n pull, a good place to start.
You can arrive with minimal hand tools, and grab- console (which separates into 3 pieces), brackets to bolt to tranny tunnel, plastic shroud piece under dash if any (or remove yours from Tundra when fitting.
Sequoias sometimes have rear heaters which, tbh, unless you wire and lay down plastic for the air, you wont use.
The 4wd on the floor option will utilize plastic pieces that may may not fit your tundra
Either way. Take as much as you can, go home. Remove your console. Dry fit. Analyze brackets. It should bolt directly up to under Tundra dash, cig lighter outlets can be swapped between, and with modifications, the brackets under console will work. :)

This is cool; I’ll start looking. It sounds like, from your written description, the Sequoia console connects forward to the dash, whereas the Tundra console extends only as far forward as the front of the seats. I guess I got some research to do.

Thank you for the head start!

How did the plexi glass back hatch for the shell turn out? I see lots of camper shells available for cheap, but its because they don't have windows.

Ya know. It isnt the best because of flexion....such a large piece of plexi. So I bought a aluminum frame piece from lowes. But that doesnt curve to fit the space. So I added gaskets to keep out water. In the end... between hinges, inability to use struts because they'll break it, and locking mechanism (dilling holes).... I'm not satisfied.

What I will do, is get a sheet of aluminum. Use the same concept, cutting to shape, but avoid flexion by using a spacer material to fill the frame, and then cut a large oval. The oval will be plexi, allowing me to see out the back and such. I'll spray the alumn black. Let me add a few photos on what I have thus far. Remember to be kind, it was a first attempt lol.

Thank you sir! Indeed so, KC and midwest its whole life I believe, and I've taken pains to treat surface rust as I go.
This summer I'll do a full underbody coating after a wire brush and converter treatment. Gotten cheaper, the rhino liner kit now is 150 on Amazon. Hell, takes longer to prep than to spray!

Im going to be doing the rust converter on my 08 in the next few weeks. Definitely have a good amount of surface rust underneath. Mind you i live in snow 4-6 months a year. Going to pressure wash, wire brush, rust convert, paint, woolwax. And if i make the oiling a habit each spring and fall it should be in check.

Ive been looking for a cap as well. If i find one missing its back glass i have an idea! Lol, love it

Im telling you, truck caps hard to find in midwest for this model, for a good price. Thats why I ended up going to TX. Was terrible amount of effort but worth it, once I spray it black and finish the lights

    THREAD UPDATES.

So I ran into an issue. After my 2.5 lift and retrieving the vehicle from the shop, I noticed they had not reconnected the brake line clips to the frame, in the fender well area. Upon attempting to reconnect, I felt something funny with the rigid steel like down by my driver's brake caliper. Front. And wouldn't you know? it rusted and snapped with minimal force. The bad luck of it all.

Below- where they left the bolts out and lines unclipped. Probably just forgot but....

Below- the snapped/broken brake line. You can see it is the last rigid segment, and I have a 10mm attempting to clamp fluid and somehow also remove the bad line. It was a rough 30 seconds. Thankfully it came off and I replaced it with a generic 3.50 part from Oreilly.

    20200411_163010.jpg

Got the new line bent and on, and realized my brake pedal was now spongy and dead. Clearly I had broken the vacuum and allowed air in, fluid out. Shit. So i booked an appointment with Toyota dealer here. Because the new brake line had to be ordered, the service done, fluid exchanged, and rear brakes dialed in.

Yesterday, I got the truck back. They dialed in rear brakes, swapped out brake fluid per Toyota service procedure, full flush, and replaced the brake line. 300 bucks. But. I felt like it was worth it.

UNTIL I came to a slow stop sign/brakes didnt clamp down. Now my truck is rolling to a stop at slow speeds. Scary.

The initial bite is good and pedal feels right. IDK.

Annoyed as shit. Toyota says its my leaking brake booster, we can hear the vacuum leak but. IDK why it would get so bad after a service. Anyway.

Next up is a brake booster swap I guess.

650 bucks in my brakes already smfh

A lot of people have asked me about the center console swap I did. So i got some better photos for yall.

Below- I drilled 3 holes to let footwell airflow through. Swapped over the cig lighter outlets between old Tundra and new Sequoia. And finally, there are 2 brackets, protruding from under dash, that a large bolt can be used to line up the new Sequoia console with. Holds everything very firmly.

Next, at a salvage yard I found an 06 Sequoia and removed the console and brackets underneath. There is a tranny ECU or some such component bolted to one of the brackets you will need. TBH I'm only using that one bracket. Pictured below, installed in the Tundra. 20200415_155246.jpg

Now the rear, large piece of Sequoia console literally bolts right up and drops in! A few photos of completed unit, after respray and button blank installs. Completely rigid and tight. 20200415_155433.jpg

Yes I used duct tape to cover the 4wd area, lol

Finally, I am working on the underhood fabric, that I ripped from a Toyota camry. Should be a decent thing to add on. Sound deadening and heat protection. I know it isn't necessary, but once installed and freshened, Should also help hide the wiring for my underhood lighting.

Something like this might give you a more finished look on your foot vents:
Product link. Looks like they have lots of shapes and sizes. But the fact that the above vents mount with screws is a plus for your application.

Will do! when i get back from California this wknd. Time to update that portion. Bought retaining push clips. Deciding how to handle the factory stickers, as they are so pretty, and not wishing to hide them. haha.

It will be step by step!

Also got bit by the carrier bearing bug this weekend on a drive south. So that is on the way. And finally, my brake booster ate shit. After all that money in the rears and a full fluid swap. sigh.

BUT thats ok, this truck is for the long term.
