That looks amazing! If I ever need to get a Sequoia to get more interior room that's what I'm shooting for - good job man!

How did you guys get the panels off below the headlights without breaking any tabs. Advice appreciated!

Also is there a write-up for the step by step install of the grill?

    thanks!

Start by unbolting the hood release 2 bolts, then remove about 10 bolts around the bottom 2/3’s of the old grille, the upper part has pins that snap in/out. Assemble the new hood bulge to the new grille, super simple just snaps together. Install the new grille starting with the pins on the bulge, carefully lining them up and pushing in. Bolt the rest together no modifications needed..20-30mins.

For the panels below the headlights the hardest part, remove the push pins, then carefully but forcefully pull out while using a trim removal tool between the trim and the fender and kinda rocking the panel up and down slightly. I’ve had them off 5-6 times and it is kinda surprising how much force it takes for those 2 damn pins to let go!

So my take on the install.

install itself was straight forward. As far as the screws to hold the bulge to the grill I used a #8 body screw 1/2” long. Those are available at any auto store.

Once installed I was left with 1.25” gap at the bottom. I used weatherstripping from Amazon 1” tall, 1” wide and 6ft roll filled the gap perfectly.

second issue was how open the sequoia grill is, everything behind the grill was visible and showed its age. The plastic were faded and the chassis was not fully painted from the factory. Some chassis/roll bar paint and some trim paint to the rescue.

Thanks! Tried slow and straight out with an interior trims tool but broke all my tabs lol. Eh what can you do. Some 3M tape and a dab of gorilla glue is holding it pretty well. The only reason I removed the panels under headlights was to get some Morimoto XBs in at the same time.

    Otherwise grill went in perfectly!

Same thing happened to me when I took the panels off to install the alpharex lights. I used the right tool and went really slow and every tab broke. I'm pretty sure that it was due to the age of panels. Like you said, some VHB tape and I was good to go as well. Congrats on the upgrade!

Loving the look with the exception of the gap...with a white truck feel it will be too noticeable to not drive me nuts...
anyone come up with a better solution other than the weather stripping?
Any light bar options out there or maybe someone can produce a color matched filler strip?

Nice! I’m about to get mines but in black I don’t think they have silver sky metallic.

If it bothers you that much you can always be a baller and buy a new Sequoia bumper. Problem solved!

I hadn't considered just adding the all black option to a non black truck before, that looks nice. My sister has a new TRD Sequoia, I wonder if she would notice if I swapped some parts?

Hey, newbie here. To be clear, was this grill mod done on a 2008 or a 2018?

    Thanks!

Just FYI for everyone - I got in touch with MCAuto about this grille. They make knock-off newer Tundra, Tacoma, and 4Runner TRD Pro grilles. They stated they have plans to produce the Sequoia TRD Pro grille, but don't have an exact date yet. I may hold out for this as it will probably be a fair bit cheaper than the OEM ones, and I can't tell a difference between their Tacoma pieces and the real deal.

Maybe they will make it a little taller to eliminate the gap? that would make a lot of people happy.

I really want to do this as I am tired of the chrome grille and bumper on my 2010. I have to factor in that I bought it used last year and it has over 217k miles on it now. Would it even be worth it? I have been talking with my wife about letting me upgrade the seats to leather or vinyl seat covers as I can get those for around $1000 and she reminded me that we bought the truck to be a part time, mainly to do stuff around the house or occasionally haul things, vehicle. I installed a backup camera and swapped out the tires and wheels, and I still need to replace the front and rear shocks and possibly other parts of the front suspension.
