I’d just narrow that down to the 6.2 or tundra, but that’s just me and my experiences with ford

    THIS ^^

I'm waiting to see the new Tundra. If it doesn't ring my chimes, I'm going with a 2021 Ram 2500 Cummins Night Edition for giggles. Then will swing back around to Tundras in a few years when they have introduced some TRD models, etc.

Actually the Cummins engine is bullet proof - probably the best diesel out there. It's the rest of the truck that might fall apart on you. Co-worker just ran out of lifetime warranty benefits - 4 years into the lifetime. He bought a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty for $4,000 when he bought the truck. It was a lemon so he returned it for another one. First one was a diesel, traded for a gas. Then that one started breaking all the time also. It's a joke here at the office (construction company) when we ask where the rollback truck is to go move equipment, someone will chime in that it is busy hauling Kurt's truck back to the dealer. The RAM dealer now told him they had spent too much on his truck already and can't honor the warranty anymore. Imagine running out of lifetime benefits in 4 years. Another co-worker with a RAM is not out of benefits yet, but probably close - his truck is also in the shop several times a year, sometimes for weeks at a time.

Actually a good looking truck. Warranty even paid to have it re-painted when the clear coat started peeling. Also replaced 2 transmissions, among other things.

Yah, great engines. Wow, I'd be talking to a lawyer if they are not honoring the lifetime warranty. That's BS. I'd only keep it for a few years so not worried about RAM warranty running out.

He was so done with it he just left it at the dealer and went and bought a Chevy HD diesel Silverado. They told him it would take another 4 to 6 weeks to get the transmission, since they were on backorder. That's after they already had it for a month. He told them to just replace the transmission when it comes in and keep the truck there on their used-car lot and send him book value for it when they sell it, or some arrangement like that. The warranty does not make up for the hassle of dealing with the repairs and being out of a truck for extended times.

This right here. I know almost no one, for example, who owns a Silverado who ALSO keeps the AFM on for any decent period of time. In fact, most people I know who have bought Silverados recently have made it a condition of purchase to disable the AFM before they take delivery.

I may only be getting 14-18MPG (depending on conditions) with my Tundra, but for a 4WD CrewMax, no real fuel management features, driving it like I stole it, etc., I'm getting the SAME mileage I got with my F150...which had cylinder fuel shut-off (I think), 3.31 gears, etc. I'm happy as hell.

I researched that exact truck for a while before ordering a GMC 2500 AT4 Gasser. Based on what I found your best chance with the RAM is the HO 3500 diesel. It has the Aisin transmission and the traditional leaf spring rear. 68RE in the regular diesel is questionable and the 2500 coil rear commonly has a “death wobble” even as early as 50k miles.

I think we’ll see higher payload and towing as well as improved interior. 80% of the people that complain about the V6TT haven’t driven one in a truck and will end up getting one anyway I’m sure. Then they’ll talk about the torque, gas mileage, etc and a higher level of trust and reliability since it’s a Toyota. I wouldn’t worry about it. As long as the exterior design is still nice, they’re gonna sell a ton and most guys on here in the market for a new truck will make the switch.

I agree. I am a "Toyota Guy" but also a diesel fan. I'm on my 1st Tundra but have had 3 Toyota Land Cruisers. Still own the last one. My family has all switched to Toyota as well. Multiple Tundras (5), Avalons (3), etc. I love my 5.7 for the fact that it just works but you have to just adapt with the times. I'll be quite happy with a V6TT especially when I'm pulling 7,500 lbs (my current Land Cruiser on my car trailer) over the I-70 mountain passes in Colorado to Moab for off-roading.

If I live long enough to need a new truck, you might be right. As it stands, I am not going to be buying any trucks. I just wanna see what Toyota has come up with. I enjoy window shopping, and might take up test drives as a hobby. :D:burnrubber:

I feel like Ram is the only one that hasn't gone over the top with the design of the front end of their HDs. GM is obviously the worst but Ford is getting there too.

Hopefully it will debut during the Superbowl, also saw maybe the Chicago auto show?

RAM HD’s are still using a facelifted version of the previous generation 1/2 ton cab. It is a more restrained design than the other HD’s. Ford separated their HD design from the 1/2 ton twenty years ago, surprised it took so long for another group to do it. I like the GMC HD design, but it’s not exactly subtle.

Couldn’t agree more. GM HDs are hideous and Ford’s front ends are working really hard to catch up.

I get the dislike for the Chevy, but the GMC doesn't look bad. If it weren't GM I would even consider owning one.

My complaints about the 3.5 are 2 big things - the rest of the truck is a Ford, and the gearing. I deal with Ford's at work and it has left me with a sour taste. The gearing is brutal though, it's meant for doing 55 mph. So places where the speed limits are 65+ they just guzzle gas. They have 10 gears dammit, they don't need to cram them all into 0-55 mph for prime RPM. A 6 speed is just fine for doing that, I don't feel the Tundra needs more gears. But with more gears I'm hoping to keep the RPMs done when doing 65-70.

The 3.5 isn't as reliable as the Tundra 5.7, but it's either on par or barely below the 5.0 when comparing Ford v. Ford. So my thinking is the Tundra V6TT will be less reliable than the 5.7, but that bar is so high that even being comparable is all I need.

It would be awesome if Toyota had a generator built in like Ford , that has my interest a little bit, super handy

I'm confused why so many think going to a TTV6 is "the future" and why Toyota thinks it is the future (if they even do).

GM mostly sells 5.3L(around 4ever) and 6.2L(since 2013). Although I understand dealers can more easily get 3.0 Duramax because of supply issues. Nissan sells a 5.6L in their fullsize 1/2 ton. Ram now sports a Hellcat, but sells mostly 5.7L Hemi (basically unchanged since 2009). Ford sells mostly V6s, but still carries a 5.0L. Now they realize that people don't want that annoying sound from a TTV6 in their Raptor or in their GT.

Turbo V6s are the future of full size 1/2 tons my a$$, that's what the suckers thought that paid $10k +sticker for 6-cylinder Raptors with exhaust notes pumped through the speakers like a bavarian wet dream. Try to sell those V6 Raptors going forward, a new record in F-150 depreciation. Hybrids are the future my a$$, electric vehicles are the future my a$$. EVs are so far from having any range past the end of the driveway when loaded with payload or towing that it will be another 30 years before we see one make a cross country trip with a Travel Trailer or a boat in less than 2 weeks.

All evidence points to Toyota putting a V6 in the Tundra. If that's the case, welcome to the immediate failed past Tundra, not the future.:notsure:

Toyota probably figures they don't sell enough Tundras to justify having more than one engine.
