Great question, wherever they are, hope they are doing ok and were able to get their truck situation straightened out.

The Crown Signia power train is freaking ass.

Total letdown in the engine department. Hard pass. The CVT and rattly ass 4 cylinder naturally aspirated engine ruin the experience.

If you were thinking race car coming from an SS, it shouldn't have been on your radar. I think that is the same setup that is in the Sienna and Highlander hybrids.

By the way E-CVT. You know metal planetary gears and electric motors, no rubber bands like non hybrid CVTs. It is actually more stout than traditional transmissions.

Also check out the Crown (not signia) max, it has a traditional transmission.

"Yes, the Toyota Crown Hybrid MAX has a direct shift 6-speed automatic transmission. The Hybrid MAX is a performance hybrid powertrain that's exclusive to the Platinum grade of the Toyota Crown. It's paired with a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and produces 340 net horsepower."

Almost all test drives I have taken on new cars, the salesman has told me to "floor it", so I can see how much power it has. Most likely, they are telling everyone who test drives new cars. I absolutely hate car dealerships, service departments and car salesman. All they care about is trying to get as much money out of you at any costs.

I have test driven the Crown Platinum with the Hybrid Max. Far superior engine and transmission combo.

Toyota should be cramming that combo into every single unibody vehicle they produce that it can fit in.

Particularly the Crown Signia needs a more refined engine choice. The 2.5L CVT hybrid thing is just buzzy and thrashy anytime you ask for acceleration. It sounds anemic, and it is.

The T24A-FTS used by the Hybrid Max might sound a bit gruff at times but in a good way. Doesn’t need much RPM to make plenty of torque and with the hybrid assist is just effortless. It ends up being more quiet and seems to turn lower RPM’s at speed. Tough to tell though since I was unable to make the instruments display a proper tachometer on either model and the salesman didn’t know either.

In short the Crown Signia is a car with potential if they ever give it the big stick Hybrid Max. Until then it’s squandered opportunity.

So was the result shits or giggles, ;-)? We didn't bother test driving one and never will because it's useless for what we do. The cargo area is ridiculous, 87 cu ft max vs 122 cu ft in the 2019's.

Fulltime 4WD is gone, sliding rear glass is gone. Our attitude is a half step forward with slightly better MPG, but two and a half steps backward. We have no use for 570 ftlbs torque, certainly no need for a solid rear axle that cuts cargo volume. Grrrrr, I was excited when Yota said they would bring a 3G Sequoia to the market, but then it turned out to be a Homer Simpson design.

    Yeah I watched his video.

As much as I enjoy his content, at the end of the day I’m not a professional mechanic. This vehicle will have a warranty, and will be someone else’s problem to fix. Aside from spark plugs being a pain in the ass to change on cylinders 4-6 I’m not overly concerned. I got a quote today for 3.3hrs of labor for that service and if I buy plugs for 1/2 what the stealership price is I would be into it for about $880 every 40,000 miles. If I’m willing to take the plastic cowling off and remove the turbo charge pipe to gain access to 4-6 I can probably do it myself in an afternoon for $200 worth of spark plugs.

The timing chains being at the rear of the engine don’t bother me. Again warranty. Not my problem. I’ll get an extended 100K warranty, it will take 10 years or more to put that many miles on at our rate.

Dealer is same distance as the Toyota dealer, and the CX-90 is just a more desirable vehicle to my wife. She could see better out of it, the seats were more comfortable for her, and it has more room than the Toyota’s we considered. Plus it drives better. A lot better. Not even a fair fight better. The inline 6 was turbine smooth compared to the inline 4’s in any of the Toyota’s. Frankly I liked it more that the TTV6 in the Sequoia we drove from an NVH standpoint.

The Grand Highlander would be an option if you could buy one but the airbags are under recall and none are available because Toyota NA manufacturing can’t get their shit together. Production doesn’t resume until next month at the earliest.

We love the new Land Cruiser but I can’t wait 3-6 months for a new daily for her, and I’m not paying dealer markup to get one now because supply is constrained. I’ll own one though, I really actually enjoyed it and it’s a great size for us. Big enough to be useful, not so big it’s a pain in the dick to put in the garage, and the build quality is outstanding.

It's an entirely different class of vehicle vs the old sequoia. They abandoned the simplicity to be more competitive with the Tahoe. They succeeded.

except the 3rd row and storage is a joke.

I was going to buy one until I saw the storage, hey Toyota, need flat cargo area more than I need hybrid battery bump

    1000000000% correct.

Toyota should stop screwing around and engineer a different battery pack that is longer and less tall so the load floor can be flat.

While they’re at it they should make a long boy Sequoia so the rear seats and cargo area aren’t compromised as much no matter what shape the battery is.

Oh and for crying out loud put full time 4 Wheel Dive back in the transfer case. Also offer that transfer case as a stand alone option on the Tundra.

    Damn forgot all about those.

Also how about an engine that will last longer than the first spark plug change at 40,000 miles.

LOL. Had to do it. I own a 2nd Gen sometimes I just can’t resist.

Actually it's not competitive with the Tahoe. 2G Sequoia was best in class cargo volume because of IRS. Tahoe had less cargo volume because of solid rear axle.

Tahoe now is IRS so it has cargo volume comparable to the 2G Sequoia. Meanwhile, 3G Sequoia went backwards to solid rear axle thereby decreasing cargo volume (along with the hybrid battery hump).

    Also, Tahoe offers fulltime 4WD.

With impressive 2 or 3 inches of ground clearance it's strictly an asphalt princess. I always laugh when I trail an IRS Tahoe. Those lower control arms is a joke. They have an "offroad" trim, but it's a joke in square.

legit had the same thing happen to me on a powerboost prior to buying my tundra. I was in love with the interior and then at a stop light the whole thing lit up like a Christmas tree and the sales guy says “yea that can happen with hybrids it will fix itself”

A LWB Sequoia may be difficult to do at the ageing San Antonio plant. It's just not all that large (physical dimensions) to support a third TNGA frame. And if they keep the SRA LWB maybe brings cargo volume to 2G level, but turning circle is increased. Along with fulltime 4WD, cargo volume and sliding rear glass, we love the 2G's tight turning circle.
