    The SR trim is for the legions of lawn care companies that use 2wd Tundras in their fleets. They usually come in construction worker truck white to signify their utilitarian, basicness. You may also see bug-b-gone companies in this trim and occasionally maybe a florist. But mostly lawn care. None of these people need the extra 31hp. SR5 is where the Tundra starts, for everyone else.

    What kind of trailer? If it's large, heavy, or high tongue weight you might be better served by an HD truck.

    The truck will not be a daily driver, it will be used for hauling & towing. For over 90% of my driving (around 12,000 miles per year) I've got roughly 500 lbs. in the bed plus towing trailers from 2,000 to 5,000 lbs. with tongue weights from 240 to 520 lbs. My trailers are not particularly heavy, but they have frontal area from 55 - 70 sq. ft. so they push a lot of air. I am shopping HD as well, was just hoping to try a Toyota to see if the quality is better...

    Basic utilitarian is what I want. I'm not concerned about the 31 hp, it's still got more than enough power. I was just surprised/annoyed that they won't let me have mirrors and trailer brakes. I get the impression the Tundra brakes are a weak point as it is.

    It was more of a poke for the @Eurodriver 's of the world, but you describe the SR5 trim level, and then say you want an SR. The SR5 is your trim level, it comes (available/optional) with all of the stuff you said you need.

    OUCH! That looks like you completely broke the heel off! Not fun. Hopefully you've made a full recovery and don't have any lasting issues from it.

    You are correct, I was just trying to stay as simple and inexpensive as possible. If I go to SR5 I can also add airbags to keep it level with a load. Of course to get airbags I have to add a premium package that also includes crap I don't want for over $5k and the price just keeps going up.....

    Lots of stuff!
    Does the SR trim have a tranny cooler? If not, you could always add one if you want to tow at the max or heavier and are worried about cooking the fluid. Adding the brake controller should be easy with an adapter harness, I had this with my Ridgeline.

    Clip on mirror extensions are easy if the load is super wide.

    I use Tow Mode mainly because of the hill descent programming but I find that I have to slide the shifter over into "S" and pull the transmission into 1st to get started, where the transmission seems to be sitting in 3rd when starting so lots of noise and not much get up and go!

    Does the SR have "S" for manual shifting? If so, then with a few add-ons, you should have a comparable truck (with slightly less power) to the other i-force trims.

    Euro, you need to get out and do a youtube video of that silver beast pulling one of the space shuttles! :)

    THIS is exactly why I didn’t by a 3rd Gen. Yet. Not cuz it’s missing two cylinders and is often confused for a Tacoma or Corolla Ute. I could purchase a 2nd Gen base model with the 5.7, tow package, 4wd, and add tow mirrors without going to SR5 or higher trim packages. Add the TRD package to the base model for $1000 and get aluminum wheels (steelies rust too fast for me) and (arguably) better suspension for towing on rough roads. And you get cool stickers that horspers. So all the necessary stuff with a reasonable price tag. Can’t do that with the 3rd Gen.

    So I did this instead…
    07FF2547-979B-416C-B991-D3E978D9DCF3.jpg

    Still, it’s nice to see the OP put his truck to work. I have no doubt the 3rd Gen platform is quite capable out of the box.

    I thought that’s how they talk to other drivers in Italy..? Mandatory training. You know, the one finger salute to say hello? The verbal gibberish is indecipherable.

    @blenton that looks like a powerhouse! There is a 2021 TRD Pro with a Magnussen Charger on sale in my area. I am just concerned about the 5.7 being able to handle the increase pressure on the blower.

    The Magnusson supercharger was developed with Toyota. There used to be a TRD branded option from Toyota. The 5.7 will run it no problem.

    It's fun, for sure. Towing is a ridiculously good. It was my plan from day one to add the factory TRD supercharger @GODZILLA mentioned as soon as I paid off the truck. Toyota discontinued the program just before I paid the truck off so it didn't happen for a while. If you want to fall down the rabbit hole...

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/general-supercharger-thread.85513/

    One of the biggest standouts to me is that vehicle tuning has a lot to due with motor longevity when adding supercharger.

    That super charger looks like a ton of power increase at ~4,000 rpm and at only 7 psi!

    No no no no no...

    Torque peak too high
    Old tech
    V8 engines cause leprosy

    Get on the V6 bandwagon and come on in for the big win!

    @Breathing Borla
    @KroppDuster
    @Kap1
    @Eurodriver

    EDIT!

    Not @KroppDuster... they ditched the V6 for something more serviceable/long lived.

    I'm an idiot. I was so focused on trailer tow equipment that I overlooked the one thing that eliminates the SR from consideration; 22 gallon fuel tank :annoyed:

    To be fair, with a supercharger, it's more a torque plateau or very broad mountain than a peak.. And V8's don't sound beta or farty enough - almost like they are mean. But ya, ancient, old, decrepit tech.

    Yeah 22.5 gallon tank with a 4 gallon reserve makes the low fuel light come on quickly especially if towing
