    I think they’re pretty similar. Both are popular. I’ve run BFG on every truck I’ve owned for the last 20 yrs, and I would have gone with KO2s again but they don’t currently make a tire in these sizes (I’ve seen them for sale online but apparently that’s old stock?). If I had aftermarket rims then I may have found a KO2 size that worked. The stock TRD rims limit the tire width you can choose.

    Depends on the tire, but the TRD Pro rim is 8 in wide. KO2s in this size range (33 in and up) specify a rim wider than 8.5 in. For comparison, the SCS Ray 10 rims are 9 in wide.

    When i got my 295's they were cheaper than 285's. I got my Wildpeaks for about $800 shipped back in May. Availability was way better for 295's too. I love mine. MPG took a hit, i was previously getting 18, now 15-15.5 with my 4.6L. I would say just get whatever is cheaper. They are dimensionally hardly different from eachother and visually you really can't tell. People mistake my tires for 35's all the time.

    Was looking for 33 in or bigger tire that I could put on the stock 18 in rim. Agree though that a different rim would give you many more options.

    Yes I did swap to the TRD Fox coilovers and rear shocks. And I do rub a bit at full lock if I’m not going really slow.

    They seem to be ok if you live in a dry climate. They don’t clear mud at all, and I’ve heard more than a few people says that around 20k miles, they get really hard/brittle and are downright terrifying on wet pavement. There’s a big thread at T4R.org about it.

    Think the tires changed or other tires just evolved better surpassing them?

    I recall ko2 diehards in my old xterra group but not so much anymore. The duratracs seemed to change their tune when they saw me in the mud :)

    Ironman Foam Cell Pro Lift. 2018 retro fit LED headlights, TRD grill, TRD rear sway bar.
    I’m a little late to the party on this one but have been doing a ton of research on these sizes as I await my 6112s:yawn:
    Was speaking with my local off-road shop and he made a point after recommending that I don’t go with the 295s.
    He said that if you plan on doing any off-roading at all (which we are, although mostly mild stuff) you may see more rubbing under full compression of the suspension with the 295s over the 285s. He then went on and suggested new UCAs or different offset wheels if I was going the 295 route.
    Maybe this is BS, maybe not. Sounds logical though and while the frequency of this is low, I also don’t want to have a problem in a place that has limited help (deep woods).

    I was leaning 285 anyway due to the weight so likely Nitto ridge grapplers get my vote on my stock TRD OR wheels.

    Bam 8 exhaust 285/70 18 ridges 4:88 gears, auburn lsd 6112s SPC UCA

    The weight was the main reason i went with the 285 when i installed my 6112. There is a slight size difference but its minimal opposed the weight difference

    You'll like em. I suspect the 295s are popular due availability and price, but for me the price was the same. I went with 285/70 and really like them.

    I was going back and forth between 295/70r18 and 285/70r18 as well... then I realized I can get a 33.8x11.2 tire cheaper if I just switch to 285/75r17

    More sidewall, cheaper tires, decent selection, smoother ride, better load ratings... lots of positives. The only downside I see is I have to buy new wheels!

    What other negatives can you guys think of?

    Sounds good. The wheel thing was a big one for me though, since the stock Pro wheels are pretty nice.

    I totally get that. I’m on standard TRD wheels so I think upgrading to something like a method mr316 I’m titanium would be sick with my cement truck.

    edit: although those may only be offered in a 0 offset...

    I feel as though I owe this thread an update.
    I’ve been running 285/70r18’s for almost 4 years now. They’ve been great. I originally complained that they were too small. But they have grown on me and I’ve been overall pretty happy.

    My argument for 285’s (and this comes from 30k miles of adventures) is that they are an amazing option for trucks with only a level looking to do some light wheeling.

    Decent mileage, not a ton of power loss, a solid bump in clearance, and maintains FULL suspension flex.

    If you want to take a leveled Tundra and use it everyday plus some adventures, it’s a great medium sized option. IMG_5575.jpg
