2nd key FOB wait time

Just curious as to how long you waited for Toyota to send a 2nd key fob letter.

I am a little nervous only having one. “Murphys law” I will loose it for sure. Lol

I just bought an extra one when I bought the truck, now I have 3

 

If only there was a way to find things like this on the forum.....its a scooby doo mystery

The Toyota "schedule" is not accurate at all. My son's truck was built in September 2023, and he got his key notification in late December. Mine was built in October, 2023, when it was supposed to come with 2 keys, yet I'm still waiting. This is ridiculous. There is no longer a chip shortage Toyota. Sad that I got a recall before a second key. This is my first Toyota and while the truck has been great thus far, this chicanery leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I bought my 2023 SR5 in November 2022. It came with two FOBs. I bought my 2023 Crown in August 2023, and it took the full six months for the second FOB.
It was much more of a nuisance being without it than I expected. I could never move the vehicle in or out of the garage, or when my wife and I were together, if we came out of stores at different times, the person without the FOB was locked out. ( I would use the app, but she is not an app person.) About five months into it, I was at the dealer and mentioned it, again. The service campaign had been showing on the app for quite some time. The reception gal went and spoke to the parts guy. She said he ordered one "with your name on it", and it would arrive in about two weeks. It did, and they programmed it for us, and all is good, but we waited essentially the full six months for it....

That is a long wait, and for the reasons you mentioned. Maybe lots of phone calls and making myself a nuisance will be on order.

 

Doesn’t hurt to check with your dealer. Mine told me that it would take 6-8 weeks. I had to take my truck in for service at 10 weeks and since I had no notice of 2nd FOB, I asked my service advisor. He told me that I had already received my 2nd FOB. After I convinced him that I had not, and discussion with sales rep and customer service he went to the parts department and made a FOB for me and charged it to sales. Upon delivery I received 1 FOB and 2 keys…I now have 2 FOBs and keys.

 

Couple months ago I got the app notification for my 2nd fob and it said to call the dealership. When I called they said it would have to be ordered and they would give me a call when it arrived. Never got a call back.

Brought my truck in on March 8th to have the transmission recall done and my second fob was magically found.

 

I did not google it either I used the search function right here on the forum. If you click on more in the search box you can narrow it to 3ed gens only. You can do it!

 

This info is inaccurate. Mine was made in Oct, 2023, which the table says remedy available. I haven't received the notification and I checked with my Toyota dealer 2 days ago and they said it's not available yet. Maybe I'll never get a 2nd fob?

I bought new. Had a deposit on the allocation since Sept, 2023. Got built in Oct, 2023. Due to port delay for inspection at the Phoenix rail yard, it didn't arrive at the dealership until Nov 22, 2023. I picked it up November 25th.

My son's truck was built in Sept, 2023. He bought his on Dec 15, 2023, and his 2nd fob notification 12 days later on Dec 27, 2023. So his truck was built a month before mine and so far, we're at 3 months later and I still don't have a 2nd fob, so no, it's not accurate if the remedy is supposed to be available for my build date and it's not.

Not your fault Ryan, it's just Toyota's provided info is bunk, that's all I'm saying. But I do appreciate you posting it, it just irritates me to no end, that's all.

 

Can you DM/PM/Conversation me your VIN? I can check for you…not sure why you don’t have one yet…

 

I would call, they told me 45 days and never called or sent me an email or anything. Out of the blue I called and they said o yea it’s hear just come in and get it programmed.

 

I did the same thing. I just called the dealer and they told me to come in and they would do it. No problem.

 

This key fob wait is a joke. I’m finding it hard the believe that the 1 or 2 chips they save by this is doing anything now. If there was options not available as well then it would make sense. All the computers and electronics in these trucks, and they don’t have 2 more chips for a dang key fob??

I bought my truck in beginning of October. I called my dealership end of February after not hearing from them. They were able to get me in within a week to get my 2nd fob. Might be worth calling and asking.

 

It wouldn’t hurt. I didn’t buy my truck from a local dealer. I should call my local dealer and get them on it.

 

Bought truck 10/02. Never received a notification from anyone. When it was in for the neutral recall last week I asked about the remote and one magically appeared when I picked up the truck.
So 5 + months (or maybe forever if I waited for Toyota to tell me).

 

MY24 purchased mid august 2023. Picked up truck mid October 2023 Key fob received/programmed mid February 2024

 

I understand how frustrating it must be to see that someone didn’t search as thoroughly as you would like. I hope you will be ok, but the grown ups are having a conversation now….

 

Are trucks being delivered right now (Mar ‘24) still coming with only one Fob?

 

My neighbor just got a 24 taco and it came with 2 fobs.
