I used the shocks that come with the ICON stage 2 kit. The entry level rear shocks. I’m thinking I might need to upgrade to something with adjusters.

Ahh. In that case, you're likely maxing out those shocks at the top end of the spring recoil. The base Icon shocks are only rated for 0"-1" of lift. Those springs you're running are ~2.5" of lift.

That coil and shock don’t work well together

I’m running 2864s with a 1500 pound camper in the bed. Holds the weight well but get a bounce between 30-35 mph. Not sure if it’s the springs or tires but it feels over sprung when the camper is empty and I’m driving around by myself. Will be swapping to a shorter and lighter coil + bags as soon as icon or dobinson release their purpose built coils.

On a side note I got an email back from icon. They said they should be releasing a rear coil in the next couple of months.

I’m running these with the dobinson MRRs and have an empty bed most of the time. Not much of a pogo effect but I’d thank the MRRs for controlling that.

Same with my Dobinson IMS shocks. His shocks are maxing out at the top end. A longer shock will go a long way to correcting the pogo effect. :)

That preload is def maxed out on the front coils. Just keep an eye out for topping out your shock when off roading.

Thanks, I will take note note of that. Seems like they only went up a few inches, maybe need a stiffer spring up front? Icon didn't really give me an option to pick the coils.

Max preload is 1.125” of exposed threads according to Icon’s tech documentation (see #2 below). Looking at the pic, it looks like that’s right at max or maybe slightly more.

Yes, a heavier spring will help reduce preload. I’m running Icons up front as well and will eventually swap the coils for heavier ones when Icon releases them. I’m running 1” of preload because of my bumper and winch up front. My local shop is an Icon dealer and they said Icon is coming out with more coil options soon.

Like mentioned above. I maxed mine out at icons 1.125 spec (first pic). Yours are the second pic and I’d say those thing are very much over what icon specs as the max.

I do have a hybrid, when I talked to icon over the phone, it was stated you do lose around 1/4" or more of lift because of the extra heft. Possible my shop that installed it was just going by lift measurement? Rather than measurement of preload? With the amount of tundras they lift at this shop, kind of a strange mistake.

It's about 1/4" heavy, very possible the installers got their settings confused. I can see on the shock body where they spun it up from icon factory settings, which would have been at the recommended preload. Just a guess, but they probably thought they were doing me a favor by leveling the front with the rear and thinking they were still in a good range.

optical illusion from the angle of the shot. It actually is a touch lower in the front. But yeah not a big deal, Few turns off the collar should put them in spec.

Your truck looks great the way it sits now. But I have to agree with other regarding over preloading C/O per ICONS statement. But I wonder how they measure for a true 3" of front lift and what the recommended spacing of threads to achieve that? It does say that adjusting to 3" is not recommended without the use of an aftermarket upper Control arm which clearly you do have.

Looks like Dobs just released adjustable UCAs & LCAs for the rear. Price is nice. You can get both sets for about 2/3's the price of 1 set of Icon's billet arms. Obviously they're not solid like Icon's but it's nice to have a lower price point option. Links below.

I won't how the 6mm (LCA) and 5mm (UCA) wall thickness compares to the wall thickness of the stock Toyota arms?

Thanks, and I'm gonna lower it as soon as I get a chance. It sits most of the week because I have a work vehicle. Talked to icon tech support and they are pretty adamant they don't endorse exceeding the 1.125 inches of preload. I really didn't want that big a lift anyway and once I add a load to the back it'll probably be close to level. The suspension shop was trying to get the 3 inches of lift and reduce rake. Unless icon makes stiffer springs it won't be possible with the 2.5 inch shocks up front.

Yup! Dobs price point is very attractive in all aspects. But I'm also wondering what the overall wall thickness is on their arms. Id also be interested on running poly bushings vs. rubber but that the rod ends would need grease zerk fittings for periodic maintenance.

Man, Id be a tad pissed off if that's the case. The stage 7, Icon advertises 2-3.5" of lift, or let's say 3" with the added weight of the hybrid system..still though.

How's your Elka working out? This is the direction I am leaning. I have full ICON on my Tacoma and I'm not happy with there cold weather performance.

Having installed the Icon 2.5 coil-overs during Christmas break, I was left wondering this myself.. I can't see any way of getting a full 3" of lift, much less 3.5" without exceeding their specified 1.125" exposed thread measurement. The only logical explanation I could come up with is that the high side of their lift measurements are coming from a TRD sport or SR5, not the TRD OR & PRO packages that are starting life with a increased ride height from the factory.

With that said the ride is exceptional when left at their 'out of the box' setting. At 1.125 there is a notable increase in preload (no surprise) but I wouldn't say its harsh. Anymore, and I'm willing to bet the ride quality would suffer greatly. Wouldn't be too surprised if coil binding at full compression would be an issue as well.

Holy fuck. Finally icon stage 4 came in. Waited damn 3 months. Same lead time as a C4 bumper. Gonna crank them to 1.5” exposed threads and go from there

Dobinsons isn't going to release the specs, so others don't copy them.
