5.7 Engine Failures?

Buy it and throw a gallon jug a signature oil on the passenger seat.

 

Hi there, I'm looking at buying a 2012 SR5, 5.7L V8. I've read conflicting information online about the 2012 tundra. carcomplaints.com and some threads on reddit say that the 2012 is the least reliable Tundra citing engine problems such as the air induction pump failure. Yet, other threads suggest the i-force 5.7 v8 that the 2012 model has is "unsurpassed reliability".

Can anyone help clarify this?

My '12 5.7ffv has been flawless, minus a fuel pump issue long ago resolved under warranty. Going strong @ 145k miles.

 

Bullshit. As good as any other model year (modulo the usual first year-two).

 

5.7 is for peeps with a credit score below 200.

@mossliam80 should be looking at '25 model year.

 

5.7 in my 2018 and I don't even know our credit score, we have no need for it.

I can only drive 1 at a time. It's the same amount of gas.

 

2012 was when the AIP ECU got a programing change to make the pumps more reliable. Took a couple months for those changes to get dialed in.

218k on my two 5.7s combined - zero problems.

 

2012 is the BEST year Tundra and 5.7 the BEST motor.

2017, 5.7, transmission cooler, and key for ignition

 

and no pre-collision system/sensor to malfunction.

 

Also 36 gallon tank

 

38 gallon tank (if so equipped, not all Tundras have them).

2013 Sequoia FF 5.7, I put a 100k miles on it, plenty of towing. Zero issues. Best engine ever made. And my credit was ok.

Yup the 5VZ 1UZ 2UZ and 3UZ are Toyota's Best Ever. But y'all are funny slingin' credit scores around LOL

 

246k combined on mine. If all those miles were on one, it would almost be broken in.

 

2010 SR5... Key ignition, lighted ignition ring, lights in door bottoms, amber flasher and signals, dual glove boxes, sliding console, transmission cooler/heater, driver's side grab handle, dual HVAC controls.

 

At 245,000 miles on my 07, the engine runs like it is still new. I plan on giving my truck to my grandson when he's old enough to drive. He's only 6 now.

 

Concure on the engines. Bullet proof engines for sure.


Also What's the v6 that the 5th Gen 4runner/FJ cruiser have? 3gr? I hear that a great engine as well.
