Is there a truck made today that doesn't have a tin foil bumper? I don't know of any. Used to be you could jack up the entire truck or car from the bumper and you couldn't dent them with a hammer. We call this progress.

Glad to drop the truth on this thread! Lol i was speaking theoretically but I almost pulled the trigger on the $1000+ stealth rear bumper, but I realized it was an inadequate “upgrade” it’s even a thin one. Unless you’re talking 1/4” plate or tube it’s just eye candy.

I’m sure the justification for thin bumpers are crash safety and impact absorption, also cheaper for the company. So all the oem are gonna be decorative off-road.

Speaking of rear bumper, aparently some RAM's has issues with theirs. My neighbor has a 3-4 year old Ram and the rear bumper rusted like a junkyard. He's says it's a well reported issue with many but Ram refuses to address it. He installed an aftermarket one, but not an offroad type.

For what its worth I had mine wanged like that too when I got it and ot drove me a little crazy every time I saw it.

So I took a come-along,a big tree and a nylon sling and in 10 minutes had it yanked back out to near perfection!

I still want a beefier upgrade but I am a lot more happy with my bumper now than I was before too!

Current situation 1E94C8A4-EC2A-4779-AE8E-BA4911FB08AC.jpghand reference for where I would want a cut? Doesn’t really bother me like this. I’m only anal for a couple of minutes about shit usually. There’s a lot of bedside you could easily cut behind the rear tire fwiw. I’m also a goober and would want to keep my mud flaps. Thought about running dom tubing at the factory angle from a plate bumper with hitch high across the tailgate. “Hybrid” rear bumper.

Where are you getting your high clearance bumper from?

Very nice and interesting design. I've been thinking of making my own as I had made both my rear swingout and front for my old Land Cruiser. It was a bitch, but fabricating something the second time around is usually easier. Main reason I'd make my own is because most aftermarkets do not have their clevis/shackle mounts extend to the frame. Meaning, the recovery points are welded inside and outside of the bumper steel. For my Land Cruiser, I used 1" x 3" thick steel bar, about 12-14" long. It passed through a hole in my bumper and lined up with my mounting brackets. I had 1/2" grade 8 bolts pass thru the frame, mounting bracket and the recovery steel bar. The recovery point was welded to my bumper, however, it was also bolted to my frame. This provided way more strength when you were pulled, or being pulled. I just can't imagine a recovery point ONLY being welded to the bumper and that holding if you're pulling something heavy enough.

Anyone else realizing this design flaw in a recovery point???

From TrailToys.net (https://trailtoys.net/products?keywords=tundra). The website states that the HC bumper is for gen2 only (the shop custom made that bumper for a gen2 and never tried it on a gen3) but based on my research I believe it will fit my gen3 - we know the frame is the same, I checked and verified all the bolt holes are the same, the bottom edge of the gen2 tailgate is at the same position as gen3 - which I will reference as my guide line to chop the rear fender. I told the shop to not bother with the rear lights - I didn't want any unnecessary holes on the bumper. Just the other day the shop told me that it's almost done with the bumper and should be shipping it out soon. :D

I talked with them the other day about this. They were about to start the first round of fitment tests and said they typically go through 2 or 3 rounds. They estimated a possible March release.

Is that the easy way to tell if you have those sensors/features? I honestly don't remember/know what I have but i do know my rear bumper is chrome and not color matched.

Fuel delete mod Cup holder upgrade
You may have the parking sensors (quarter sized black discs) but you wont have BSM/RCTA.

Chrome rear bumper caps mean no BSM, just like @Saltyhero13 said.
