Alternative to chrome delete

They are black but with accents, I'm guessing you're meaning completely black. Hella pricey for sure for pro wheels

 

I'm thinking about getting some paint and a rattle can to address that on mine until the FN BFDs with a ~20ish offset become available.

I don't understand why Toyota just didn't make and 18 inch version of the 20s that come with the TRD Off Road/Sport that come with the limited trim. Oh wait, yeah I do. Toyota is tone deaf when it comes to practical truck features and aesthetics that customers actually want (tow hooks, trim that's not chrome, bed access when the tailgate is down).

They built a great driving experience but a rather impractical truck and I hope they're reading this because they should feel shame over some of this crap.

 

I got everything wrapped for now with plans to paint later. All the pieces seemed relatively cheap when I got quoted from a dealer. Also, they told me they come unpainted. Only thing that seemed expensive was the door handles at $200 per for the primed part.

 

They quoted you how much the unpainted parts (mustache, back bumper inserts, etc) will be?

Do you mind listing the rest of the quotes?

 

I wish I still had it but I threw away the paper, sorry man. I spoke with a parts guy at Folsom lake Toyota. I just remember the handles being pricey besides the tailgate handle.

love the truck, looks great. Eventually I may do the same, vinyl or paint oem parts. Question for you, did they prep the lower black part of the bumper with “tundra” and fog lights in it? The vinyl guys told me it wouldn’t work on that textured plastic. I believe the paint guys told me painting it wasn’t simple or maybe even possible.

 

Wow, keep noticing things you did. Are the fender flares, handles and window trim all vinyl wrapped? Looks great.

 

Hard to say right now. They didn't limit the last ones, though.

 

The BBS forged wheels on the TRDP will be north of $4k and still be a royal pain to clean, and keep clean.

 

They cut around the “tundra” and the fog lights. He said the film stuck surprisingly well for being plastic and time will tell how long it will hold. I originally wanted the whole piece wrapped, but he said it was too hard with all the angles and came up with this which I like better.

 

Yep everything is wrapped. Same thing with the flares since they’re plastic so time will tell. He said he’ll warranty them for 2 years.

 

At those prices I would probably look at one of the Jap spec aftermarket wheels (Rays/Volks/gram lights/Advan, etc.

Honestly though with all of the other things I want to do with the truck I will use my @RevereOverland discount and get me some Methods and call it a day.

 

I literally just paid $637.61 today to the shop that ordered the pieces from the dealership. That is for the unpainted parts that they just got them into their shop... He said it was 5 pieces total.

Curious to get Roman's opinion since he said he can't order them yet. I just sent a text to get a picture of the front grill parts to make sure they are correct, ha. Assuming they are as this shop did this same color match on another '22 in Feb.

I think it's worth checking with your local shops, or if Roman can look again, and see if you can get this done like I was able to... Because if this is all correct, once I get my damn truck I'll be able to have it color matched very shortly after the correct way.

Depends on which parts you got, but more and more things are becoming available now. Since I posted that info about not being able to get them, some parts have been sent ot the distribution centers.

 

If the unpainted body parts from Toyota are the same matte black finish as the normal SR or SR5 grill…then that would be ideal. I think, if I did anything with the chrome-stache, it would be going the same black as the grill instead of matching the body color.

The problem is that black is harder to color match than the body color so I’ve hoped that the unpainted parts are the same black.

 

Fixed it for you…I’m quite happy with my truck’s appearance, I’ve got the bed step and I don’t need tow hooks. My truck is a hauler, not a forest roaming 4-wheeler wannabe.

 

I was hanging with a guy the other day. He liked my limited and was considering getting a tundra but he wanted to know how to get MORE chrome.

 

Paint pieces bright Orange like my daughter has done. Working on the silver pieces on the door panels now.

 

Has anyone thought about finding someone who doesn't have chrome that wants chrome. I'm sure there is someone out there with an SR5 sport that would trade you for your chrome. Of course it would have to be the same color as your truck.

 

I have a metallic black limited and want to wrap the satin chrome bits, like the grille surround in black. Do you guys think I should go with a gloss black? I havent asked if they would be able to match the metallic yet.

 

I went with gloss black. Pretty close match. Close up you can tell a difference. My installer said they could not get there hands on a metallic black in the better brands.

 

Anyone color-match wrap the mustache on a MGM Limited yet? I’d be curious to see how it looks. Also, I’ve never used vinyl wrap before…how durable is this stuff? Will it have to be redone in a few years?

 

I can never understand how Toyota mixes and matches trims and chrome. I have SR5 OR and my Lunar Rock came with body color handles and thankfully black emblems.

 

Yeah I don’t get it either lol, but nothing a little wrap or paint can’t fix.

 

If you don't mind me asking- How much did you end up paying for the wrap? I'll only need the 3 front pieces wrapped but the first quote I got was for $800 (plus tax) & they couldn't color match...

 

Did they give you any idea how much it was going to cost to paint those parts?

 

What color are you trying to get matched? I don’t know the break down but I paid $3200 for tint, ceramic coat, whole front of truck PPF, and wrapped the mustache, middle bumper piece, all handles, flares, window trim and the 2 pieces on the rear bumper.
