Yep. Tons of Forest Service camping with a small town a couple of miles away that has a Safeway grocery store, hardware store, breweries and bars. The lake is right up the road and Flagstaff is only a 30 mile drive.

    Tundras to San Juan’s.

Twice as far as Flag but the most beautiful place in the world.

    Mods, what mods?
When was the last time you cleaned and lubed the BCG and frame? Can you post a pic of the primer end?

It’s a Spikes Tactical BCG with everything else from PSA. ML gas length 16” barrel 1:7.
Ammo was old (1980-1990s?) Winchester 55 grain FMJ mil surp Q3131.

Looks like the extractor was taking a bite out of the case.

How does it operate with a couple rounds of newer known ammo?

Haven’t gotten it back out - I didn’t have a dowel or rod to punch the case out of the chamber. Extractor definitely tore the brass - trying to figure out why the case was stuck.

what buffer and spring? Possibly over gassed and timing is off as a result. Bcg is trying to extract and eject cartridge before the pressure drops.

or a heavier buffer spring combo. Makes me wonder if the spikes bcg is not a “full auto” bcg which will be lower weight and will also affect timing

Shoot a lot of steel case ammo through it before? I've had a couple brass cases stick in my old beater AR due to the laquer and soot built up after like 7k rounds of wolf. looked very similar to that

Never put steel through it - I put the gun together about 5 years ago using the PSA BCG that came with the upper. Function tested 100-200 rounds using Federal mil surp. 100% function. Picked up the Spikes carrier after waiting for one forever to use as a back-up and decided to use the nice Spikes BCG and stash the cheap PSA BCG as the back up. I’m 90% sure I took the rifle out after that and it ran flawless but maybe not…

I’ll weigh the BCG’s and see if there is a significant difference. I can’t find any info on the PSA website about the buffer / spring in their parts kit other than “mil-spec”.

well both are full auto bolts, so that is a variable removed, if 16” w/mid length gas system, carbine buffer/spring combo (need confirmation) should be functional. Leading me to believe ammo related, coating or what not sticking to the chamber walls and the extractor is just yanking on the stuck case.

tough to say. Happy to meet and shoot somewhere ;)

Carry over from the recall thread - I love where I am in the Tucson area (Oro Valley near Catalina State Park) - but there are parts of Tucson that are just as bad or worse as anything in downtown Phoenix. There are also tons of nice areas around the metro - you just have to know where to go and where to avoid.

If I was coming for retirement - personally I’d be looking at smaller communities - Arizona is kind of a pick your elevation / climate and you can find something to suit it.

I’d settle for a bunch of land outside the Payson area - 45 minutes to the desert lakes, 45 minutes to mountain lakes, couple hours to Phoenix or ski areas. They have a Home Depot and a Walmart.

I’m waiting for the day when my mom calls me and tells me she got a place on Lemmon. Then we can do night runs, crash/camp and hit the lake with first wet lines!

    The SoAz….. big surprise
    Vehicle:
2006 DC 4.88s Elocker and some other trippy stuff
    Bone stock
It’s a cool spot if you check it out and stay for a bit. My uncle had a cabin up there when I was growing up, we didn’t go that often but at least once a year. A lot of them in her price range are fixers for the most part but nothing unmanageable.

maybe we can get a backside run and camp at rose canyon going sometime!
