I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
A lot of them are, at least the members here.

Most states require 30 days of downtime to start lemon law proceedings and Toyota hasn’t voluntarily offered to buy the trucks back thus far.

If I were an owner with a truck in the shop that long I would lawyer up and break it off in Toyota’s ass. Let them buy the truck back under lemon law and pay my attorney’s fees on top of it.

Or, why would they all not team together and start a class action lawsuit?

Lemon laws are pretty cut and dried in most states. Not much Toyota can do once conditions are met, it takes awhile but most of the time good lemon law cases are won by a competent attorney.

Toyota might have a bunch of lawyers, but they’re not devoting them and all the billing hours to fighting clear cut lemon law buy backs.

Inline five turbo engine with all the bells&whistles shipped from Torslanda, Sweden from manufacturer with virtually no sales compared to Ford or Toyota, was also $8k not so long ago.

When did they design and manufacture the tooling for that engine? My guess is not recently. I also strongly believe this is a net income tax game being played by Toyota.

Class action can be lower payout -

    https://www.freep.com/story/money/c...-l-diesel-engine-costs-ford-again/3626782001/

"A top legal expert in the U.S. told the Free Press that Margeson's victory is a powerful example of how a class action case can be used to prevent potentially billions in costs when things go wrong with consumers, in this case for Ford.

"The company dodged a bullet," said Brian Fitzpatrick, a law professor at Vanderbilt University who clerked for the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.c

Well, I don't really LIKE that, if you know what I mean. Going at it alone appears to be the better route.

Not directed at you but a general take having gone through a lemon law last year.

Lemon laws are very prescriptive by state. That's the out on getting a vehicle buyback and associated expenses covered as well. 30 days is usually a magic number. You've got to be clean though. Original owner, no mods, service records, etc..

The tough guy talk by some cracks me up. Toyota and all car companies have attorneys retained and they can play the legal game FOREVER. Even a lemon law at a rapid pace takes 90 days. An individual suit will take a year or more and you''ll be paying attorney fees. They are playing with house money, have a lack of emotion and a timeline that will wear people the F out.

Hate to tell everyone but social media is so friggin' noisy with over reactive Karen's that it's lost much of it's effectives for viable concerns. I was directly in touch with the CEO of Ford's social media team and they truly didn't give a shit unless you had a Mustang success story. I was dealing with issues 10,000's F150 have and it didn't matter. Rare cases where something lights up like the Chipotle TikToc but that's a small %. a very small %. If you think your Tundra in Kansas gets through the noise, it doesn't.

For me, I'm 60+. Arguing with a car company is a waste of time and a massive amount of bad energy. I recover what I can, take the L and move on quickly to enjoy life. Still wish my F150 would have worked out but it didn't. Oh well. The stuff we buy has risks.

I'm just throwing this out there. As someone who is not Brand Loyal, I've had every make brand new and used. I read these comments and every vehicle mentioned that isn't the tundra, has had its problems. One guy said he loves the chevy cylinder deactivation, he must be the ONLY person because that is a known problematic piece. Name one brand that hasn't had its fair share of problems. Start with the Ford Model T. Ready, Go......

Took two weeks for the engine to come in but at least it came in before the recall and there ends up being a shortage on parts. While the notice was vague at least the dealerships see through the wording.

You're right. Look at the Ford Explorer Class action suit. The lawyers got 25M and each participant got a coupon for a few hundred off on a new Explorer. The only plaintiff that makes out on the class action is the first one that files it.

Can confirm if someone hasn’t already that all 22-23s will be getting a short block recall. Man Toyota Japan really needs to step in and fix the quality control here in NA.

They have similar engine failures in engines made in Japan. I still convinced it is something with the engine design. Could be poor process and poor QA on top of that, but it's not the sole cause of the failures.

Great point and I think this is viable possibility. I believe poor QA is a culprit of U.S. built motors (Tundra) as quality has gone to crap here in the states. However, due to the Japan failures, I am convinced that the engine design is also playing a part. I don't see metal shavings and debris getting through the Japan QA assembly line...possible, but unlikely.

High levels of boost and 87 gas is sooooo not lining up with the industry practices. Why everyone else with similar engine setups is asking for 91 gas at least? What magic Toyota does to avoid engine knocks on low grade gas? Etc, etc...

Ford's 3.5 and 2.7 EcoBoosts in the F150 also call for 87, though 91 is recommended for severe service.

Both Ford Turbos I owned recommended 87 unless towing or outside air temp was above (85F?). Living in FL I always used 93.

The company provided 2020 Chevy Silverado with their 2.7L turbo 4 banger will only get 87 octane per fleet policy. Over 51,000 miles and no issues in FL heat and humidity but it is used as a commuter vehicle.

Didn't know about the stop sale! I guess that applies whenever there is a recall notice. Starting to see a few more used ones on Craigslist in my area. I guess these owners are jumping ship.

So everything is a cost per mile decision? I drive stuff that costs more per mile because I think it's a nicer place to be. People can do what they want to do.
I had a great Defender experience and a horrible Range Rover experience. I'd rather drive either one over a Ford Explorer.

They should provide the VIN breakdown / range and everyone check their trucks. There was a similar issue on one of my 2013 Honda Pilot, transmission related and they had the VIN number range for people to check. Mine was in scope and I had my entire transmission proactively replaced and not wait for it to fail. I think Toyota tactic is to wait and see when these trucks fail which is chicken shit of you ask me.

So does that put your truck right before the recall date or right after? Just curious because you've seemed very confident in the past that yours would be fine. My date is april of 23 so I skimmed by by I feel like more may be added later
