Ranch Hand Summit front and rear bumpers. Diamondback SE tonneau cover. Rigid DOT fogs. LED headlight/fog replacement bulbs. Matt Gecko hood, and bed LED's. Foot well led's, and interior LED buld replacement. (warm) Broke the front shock of the 3" spacer lift, so replaced with 6112/5160 and 1' block rear. KO 2's. Speaker replacement, added amp and (2) 10's under seat. Weathertech floor mats. Salex organizers. Ziebart undercoating. RCI front, transmission/diff, and gas tank skids received, waiting for spring install. Compustar remote starter. front/rear dash cam.
The final bill was $12k plus tax. Motor feels great but the is a small exhaust leak at flange mid truck that I can hear in parking garage and when I crawl under truck. Mechanic will fix that when I bring back. Overall I am happy to get my truck back, and hoping this refresh will get me to at least 400k miles. The cost was much more than I expected at beginning of this situation, but given the current used truck market, makes it much more palatable.

Thank you so much for posting this. I found out today that my 2014 Tundra 188k just did the same thing. Blown gasket.
Dealer quoted my $15k to put in another engine with $88k miles on it. I’m definitely getting a second opinion.

Question, once the engine was rebuilt, do you have to have any radiator work done to it as well?

Call me crazy, but this is why I'm a GM LS hooker. I can buy a 525 HP LS3 crate motor for under 8K to my doorstep.

So its been 2.5 years since the rebuild. Any issues? How many miles? Asking because I have over 300k on mine and it looks like I have a decision to make..

Will you guys please post the Dealers names that are giving quotes for 30,000 grand for blown head gasket. Honestly this might be my last Toyota Truck after seeing 30 to 35k quotes for the new twin turbo v6 tundra motors. What's the new Tacomas turbo 4 cylinder cost to replace motor? $75,000.00 Honestly WTF I bet the tec gets 1k out of the 30k repair and 90 percent of the rest goes to the owner of the dealership Tax free!!!!!

Hi, I missed what the actual repair entailed? Did they machine the heads or block? Or just a new head gasket? Our 2016 Sequoia just blew a head gasket at 120k

Another 2-2500 for install and you are good to go. When my motor dies this is what im doing the oem 5.7 is awesome but 15-20 for a new motor is a no go.

The only reason you lost your engine is because as you said you got complacent. If you had checked your fluids and taken your vehicle in for repair then you would have saved your motor.

Go to The Car Care Nut on YouTube. He is a former Toyota tech who now has his own shop and services primarily Toyota/Lexus. He has one post that talks about the need to change the coolant.

One observation from everything I have read and viewed concerning this issue, the head gasket issue was never an issue until Toyota recommended the 100K coolant changes. It makes you wonder if it is on purpose. As for my Toyotas I still do the 50,000 miles.

I was about to say, fudge dude. 37k for an engine is beyond crazy. Go to a junk yard and buy a totaled (not front end) truck and get a speciality shop to drop in the new engine and supercharge it for that kind of coin.

    Go HARROP. 600hp. Bruh....

That guy is way too dramatic. He must have forgotten the 93-97 land cruisers with the 1FZ also had head gasket issues. You can put a new xat long block in for about 15k and have a brand new start. 24k seems insane.

So many questions… is it 4x4? Getting all the systems (4WD, AC, steering, air bags, etc) to function would be my concern.

50k fluid change. Took about an hour including the passenger side engine drain. This thread and video prompted the change interval from the manual, being 100k for the first then every 50k thereafter.

I'm fairly new to the forum, just wanted to say thanks to multiple posts for the advice on how to keep the tundra on the road longer
