Yeah, about a week or so after installing it, I had to remove the grille (forget why, though). Anyway, since the top hoop supports were in the way, I couldn’t pull it out. Just loosening the bumper attachnent nuts and bolts enough to move the bumper slightly forward (maybe about 1/2”?) did the trick. It didn’t take long at all to do.

Can you take a pic of the bumper attachment?

Sure, and sorry. It’s night time, so it’s not the best pic, but hopefully this gives you an idea of the mounting hardware. I just loosened everything up, and the weight of the bumper moved forward on its own a bit due to gravity.

Easily the least supported part of the bumper took a highway speed hit and isn’t bent one bit.

Doesn’t look like it helped much though. Body still got all jacked up and tire looks to have popped. Wonder if a hoop style would’ve made a difference.

Not with where I hit the other car. If that bumper wasn’t there, the truck would be totaled, guaranteed. Hit an essentially stopped car at highway speeds

No airbags either, which is great from a rebuilding standpoint, but kinda iffy from a safety one. Lol

Sorry, wasn’t meaning to say it would’ve been better without the bumper. Meant to say it looks like it would’ve been a lot better with a hoop style bumper (protection comes up higher).

    Ahhh I gotcha

This video might help show it better, but I didn’t really hit the front, just the corner so I’m 50/50 on the hoop helping. But in a full head on with something I’m sure that hoop would make a big difference!

Sorry, I’m an old dude and tech stuff like drawing circles on an iPhone pic is something I wish I knew how to do but don’t. Anyway, if I remember correctly, I think I just loosened up all of the three vertical bolts you see in that picture. I believe there’s another bolt yhat’s hidden that you can access from the front that I also had to loosen.

Glad to help! Again, my memory isn’t the best, and it may be that I loosened the other bolts in that pic, but all in all it was fairly quick and easy.

For those who are self painting, what have you found to be good bad and ugly?

    My current proposed method is:
    mineral spirits
    couple coats of primer
couple coats of rust-oleum truck bed liner

open to other options and ideas for DIY

not opposed to powder coat but DIY seems to be much more cost effective and an easy way to clean up spots down the road

I had mine powder coated in an easy to match satin black for easy touch up. So far it has held up better than my DIY bumper paint job on a previous steel bumper using your posted method. I had to do far more touch up when I painted.

I just got my bumper setup in. I went with the Overland bumper from C4. I did all Heretic Studio lighting and a Warn VR Evo 12s with the factor 55 goodies.

Picked up my bumper today from powder coat. Hope to get it installed this week sometime.

Any advice on installation the winch? I plan on running Baja 30” light bar.

do we have to relocate the control box?

    thanks

I have the Smittybilt XRC Gen3. Control box definitely won't fit on top. There was enough room to the left side of the winch to just lay the control box there, and I'm able to get my hand in there to plug in the remote (got the winch access hole cutouts in my bumper). It was pretty snug fit, but I used zipties to snug the control box down even more.

With mine, I am running the VR Evo 12S from warn and I did not have to relocated. It fits very tightly, but clears everything. I also have a 2nd gen not 2.5 gen Tundra so that might have something to do with it.

So how did everyone mount their 30" BD light bar? I already had one and my only guess is that i need some specific brackets provided by C4...??
