I just went to purchase a new cabin filter as I do every spring. Had my oil changed and tires rotated and they said it was dirty. So I stopped at advance on my way home. $30+ for a new cabin filter?!?! F that - I bit the bullet and paid $40 for the washable k&n filter. It’s crazy how much stuff like this costs nowadays.

Did it have an arrow? :)

BTW, I ran across this set of vids for folks to replace the filter....this guy says "the air flow arrow should point UP" in video #4. Replace Filter - Insert the filter and put everything back in place. At the 8 second mark he makes the statement...."the air flow arrow should point UP"

Some filters use an arrow to indicates airflow, which should be pointing down, and others say the word up, which doesn't indicate airflow and just means, well up. :)

But, but, Hans Angermeier says to point the arrow upppppp. Are you doubting the great and mighty Hans?

Seriously, I'm going to test tomorrow with a piece of paper #1 and #2, Ive got a small wind speed gizmo we used when we flew drones...it will not only say what direction, it will tell me how fast. Hope the batteries are still good. It has been in a box for a couple years....

ok FOLKS, Hans Angermeier was WRONG. There I said it.

I took a piece of paper, cut in half and stuck it in the running airflow. Several times it was sucked/blown downwards. Myth busted, arrow points down.

The airlfw I felt on my hand must have been swirly/through my fingers because that paper in no way went upwards.
Down down down like a burning ring of airflow questions. Thank you Tilly.

So just to clarify, does the arrow point up as in “this side up” or does the arrow point in the direction of air flow…..inquiring minds want to know

    Pretty things
I personally use Swiss cheese (baby Swiss for its superior filtering ability).

Seems to keep the rats from mutinous activities AND provides a lovely fragrance.

Fringe benefit, there are no fucking arrows.

To even bring more confusion, the wix filter i just installed had the company name and info that faces out right-side-up, and the arrow up and did not specify if it was a directional arrow or a this-side-up arrow. i have looked through a dozen vids and a few forums and nobody seems to know for sure how to determine. Even the Toyota vid on youtube is very unclear. geez....it shouldn't be this hard.

Fwiw, these cabin filters are pretty much the same, structurally, on either side. They don't usually have a support structure on one side to support against air flow, or a second large debris filter that would go on the side of the incoming air.
Also, mice don't have a preference.
It probably won't be life and death if you fuk it up.
Also, people found ancient languages that were thousands of years old and made up of symbols and pictures. They figured out what it all meant.
If you can't figure out a few arrows on a filter,.....
    maybe consider a vasectomy.
No, seriously. We're trying to explore space and there's going to be 11 billion people on the planet by 2100. We need more humans that can read arrows, not more humans getting their hand stuck in a box, trying to get a banana out of it.
