The service advisor I spoke with said there is only one repair code, which covers the repair of both sides even if only one is leaking.

In addition, my vehicle was in for a scheduled 55k service a month prior to me identifying the tower leak and the service advisor made no mention of the leak at the time of service. This leads me to believe the service technicians are not looking for the tower seal leak when people bring their vehicles in for service.

Define toyota extended warranty? As in the one you can pay extra for from the dealer? Their vehicle service agreements that you buy from the dealer cover alot of oil leaks. for example it would cover the Cam shaft tower seal repair. cover oil pan leaks. cover valve covers. I have yet to run into a oil leak that isnt covered. I can see oh the oil filter was leaking and needed a new oil filter, then yeah that isnt covered. also depends on the coverage you pick...gold vs platinum

I spoke to a service rider today about my oil leak and he said it is definitely covered under warranty and extended warranty. He has to get it cleared by the Toyota rep to be able to do both sides but he said they almost always tell them to do both sides because they don’t want it back in the shop for this same problem. He also told me that they would do it on all tundras under 100,000 miles under warranty!

My tundra only has 5,400 miles on it and the passenger side cam shaft tower is leaking and I also have an oil leak next to my oil filter.

used or not you still have factory powertrain which is 5/60k. unless I am missing something here.? Factory basic is 3/36k and powertrain is 5/60k.

Wow, thank you guys very much for the information. I did some research and came to the conclusion you guys were right and I called another Toyota dealer and they said I am covered with the powertrain 5/60k. Just dropped it off for a diagnosis and if they find out it is indeed leaking then I am covered. Thank you guys very much for such priceless information that I was unaware of.

This thread has me a bit paranoid. 17 CM with 23k miles. Looking at my pictures I think I'm clean but cannot tell the color and I'm not 100% sure I'm looking in the correct location. Can someone take a look at mine and let me know what you think? Much appreciated.

also when they applied manually the black sealant it's a bit messy. Won't be a clean line like from the assembly line. fyi
seeing how much gets squeeze out, I suggest doing an oil change 500 miles or less after they fixed the leak again in order to flush all small particles from the FIPG.

Just got back from the dealership and argued with a service manager and tech for 15 mins. Basically the service manager wont do anything for me unless its "dripping" and they will document that they did notice dirt and grim by that area but they will not admit that it is abnormal or that it is oil. I asked them to put in engine oil dye and they denied that as well. They will however "goodwill" my issue and depending on the mood of whomever I speak with when I call Toyota of America they might cover a certain percentage of my problem if it does start "dripping". Literally the words from the service manager.

Haha I was thinking the same thing, I was talking to the technician for a bit and he kept telling me its normal for there to be oil on the side of the motor then I asked why I haven't seen it on any of my previous Tundras with 150k+ miles and then asked him why my drivers side is near bone dry and he replied "have you tried hand tightening down the cam/valve cover". Basically telling me he knows its leaking and maybe tightening it will help. I went to Toyota of Huntington Beach, typical dealership with a bunch of clowns. I have another buddy that lives quite far from me but hes a technician for Toyota and he admitted to the Tundra 5.7 having that cam shaft tower leak quite often.

I didnt have any issues getting my '13 fixed at 56,000. The dealer got it in, diagnosed it, ordered parts, got me scheduled and arranged for a rental. This is what I did prior to the diagnosis.... as soon as I noticed the leak I took many pictures from as many angles as I could and several as close as I could get (just make sure the pics are in focus). Then I thoroughly cleaned the area with Purple Power degreaser and water. After cleaning I took more pics and waited for the leak to reappear, took about 3 days. Then I took more pics similar to the first. In the second set of pics it was clearly evident that the leak had reappeared on the cleaned areas and the oil was bright and clear as well. I suggest giving this a try but you should do it soon as you might be nearing or just past your in service. If you're beyond your in service date that will negate being under on mileage.

I suggest you get an oil change again in 200 miles. Seeing how much black sealant is outside, there might be some that felt inside. just for peace of mind.

Dealers are told to call that kind of a leak, normal seepage.

Well I attempted to negotiate an extended warrantee due to this issue with not much traction. One dealership pretended that they had not seen any of this (large dealership). Another dealership was honest and actually had a 2013 in the bay for this work.

I will hold off on my purchase for now, although the Tundra with this issue still has far less problems than the other manufacturers. I am glad for everyone here that Toyota is standing behind the truck.
