I live in town and don't need anything other than a light duty 16" saw for handling trees in the yard and for trail duty to clear obstacles and get firewood for camp. I bought a Craftsman gas 18" saw and it worked ok, but the blade was crap and dulled quickly. Tried upgrading with another quality chain and it won't fit. My stepdad, who has heated with wood his whole life, took a look at it and said it was the weirdest thing he's seen. He uses a couple of Stihls and an old McCullough.

I decided to replace it and really looked hard at what I would use it for. It would go in the back of the Tundra or the Yamaha ATV and would only be used for clearing trail obstacles, gathering firewood for camp, and trimming trees around my home. Taking it deep into the bush on the ATV, it would be used sporadically, and setting the choke and getting it warmed up for 30 seconds of use a few times a day seemed obnoxious.

So, I looked at battery-powered chainsaws. I already had a DeWalt battery-powered skill saw, so was leaning towards the DeWalt saw. It finished near the top of the pack in a fairly extensive review on YT.

Best Chainsaw Brand (ROUND 1 of 2)? Milwaukee vs DeWalt, Makita, Ryobi & WORX - YouTube

So I bought it from Home Depot. I charged it up, and took it to my dad's home, who was cleaning up winter storm damage from downed aspen trees about 10' in diameter. He processed about 40' of tree and was super impressed. He thought it was better than his smaller saws and much faster and quieter. It fits perfectly in the toolbox on the back of my ATV. I think it will be perfect for my needs. I just need to figure out how to charge it on the ATV. I have an inverter for the Tundra, so worries there.

Isn't your ATV a 12v system? What's to keep you from using an inverter there?

Will likely find a mini-inverter for ATV.

Replaced my bar oil pump today. Had a bad leak from the chain side of the crank. I’m blown away with how rough the pump was. The housing was so corroded it had straight holes in it. Was my saw parked at the bottom of a creek for years before I bought it? Anyone ever seen this before?
Dry and clean now at least :amen:

Hopefully it was a part flaw. I just keep it clean, it’s a ms361 so between 2004-10. I bought it used so unsure of the actual date.

That’s a nice looking saw. I see a muffler mod and 5 tooth dogs. I’ve never had any sort of corrosion on any of my saws. I’m on the wet side of oregon, and my saws always have enough residual bar oil in that area that it’s a natural protectant to corrosion. It almost looks like barnacles are growing on the pump.

Thanks, I really like the saw- a nice size and still small enough it’s manageable. Only other mod I want is a full wrap handle. Prices are steep for this model so I haven’t taken that leap yet.
Ya, who knows on this pump corrosion. Maybe the previous owner was using something other than bar oil for lube?

I let her eat yesterday after work. Running real nicely.
Figured I’d share the saw shelf I built a while back too. As you can see, the previous bar oil leak stained the shelf up nicely for me ha. Now, if only I could find where I left my bar sheath :monocle:

That wood storage rack is pretty dang sweet!

I ordered my 362 with full wrap and high output oil pump. I really like that handle...a LOT. My 362 came with a 1 piece muffler, and i just found a NOS 2 piece muffler (it just arrived today in the mail). My plan is to use a Bark Box muffler cover with it.

My friend just bought a new MS 400 a couple weeks ago. Too bad that saw isn’t available with a full wrap handle. The latest version of the 362 R’s wrap handle WILL fit the 400 though. That and i hear a MS 661 oil pump (it has a higher output) will also fit the 400. But i don’t think my buddy will spend the $250~$275 for the full wrap handle kit.

What kind of chainsaw do I got? Sheeeeeit, only the best of course. No name brand Chinesium models.

I have a 16" no name chinesium with an orange cover on it that fires up on the 37th pull each time without fail.
I have a 16" Chinesium that works with my Makita battries.
I have two mini 6" no name chinesiums that work with my Makita battries.
I have a 10" Hobo Freight Atlas 40v pole saw

They all use only the finest chinesium chainsaw chains that Amazon can get to me in 4 or 17 days.

Can't believe i did this and i'm admitting it, but was working my property all day in the 100 degree GA heat and had to limb and fell some smaller trees. Grabbed my MS170, topped off the bar oil, sharpened the chain, and threw some gas in it and let her rip. Ran great and i cut 2 trees down, but then started bogging and wouldn't hold idle. Remember when i said i threw some gas in it? Yeah, that's all my dumbass did. I forgot to mix it with the 2 cycle oil. I drained the gas and set it down on my bench and called it a day. Still can't believe i was that stupid. The motor still turns, so i'm assuming i'll need to do a rebuild with a new piston, ring, cylinder etc. and clear any metal shavings? Anyone else do this before?

    That Sucks!
Loaned my Echo HC150 hedge trimmer to the neighbor, told him if he needs more fuel, I've got it. He brings it back a few hours latter and says I fueled it back up. I asked if he used mix. He says whats that.
Thank God he was done and didn't run it. BTW he's 51yrs old.
