I dented the crap out of it when I pulled it out. It was round on both ends. Back to engineering...

Bypass valve should've opened well before there was enough psi to do that to the tube.

So you switched to the aluminum filter housing - but did you change out the tube in the center when you did so? The one that comes installed in the housing is shorter for the Highlander's filter. The filter for the Tundra is taller, and from your pic the tube looks too short (though with it crushed it's tough to say).

There is no psi that would do that to the tube. It's full of holes, so inside and outside pressure would be the same.

If what you say is true then the ubiquitous bypass valve is rendered moot.

The bypass valve is for filter restriction. The center tube doesn't restrict anything.

If the filter is compromised, the tube could be rendered as progressive damage. I agree with the PLV comments. It is the longer of the two tubes provided.

My intent is to pick up a new OEM housing and filters. No more Mobil 1. Going to check into that PLV too.

Has anyone gone to get oil changed and they didn't change the filter?

All I know is that isn't caused by purple oil or any other color oil. There is a serious problem and I would be figuring out what it is before I would go jamming on a new filter thinking it won't happen again. That would take a tremendous amount of pressure to crush the center tube like that so you need to figure out what is causing it before you end up destroying your motor.

I once serviced wife's bike she used for commute and forgot to reinstall both brakes cables. She figured it out on the go and did an emergency brake against a boulder or something, with flipping over the bar.

Since it was not answered, going to go ahead and guess "no" to toyota OE housing and center pipe.

Kind of. On my ‘15 I had a rear main seal leaking. Dealer also resealed my oil pan all under warranty. I said I would pay for the filter and a few dollars labor since they were replacing the oil at no charge. Well, tech didn’t replace the oil filter.

I agree, it's got to be that purple oil! I mean seriously, what else could it be?

    Sarcasm by the way

Dorman aluminium housing? They’re the only ones I’ve seen do this

the oem centre tubes are thicker metal and rolled edges.

With modern oils I'd be more inclined to change the filter and keep running the oil, vs change the oil and keep the filter. Not that I suggest either.
