Over here in SoCal one of the sales men was telling me how they do the bmc on a ton of there trucks. Mainly the Tacoma’s to squeeze in 33s and these are brand new trucks.

Not upset but quite amused. Of course there are consequences when modifying anything, good or bad. Still waiting to hear from a member, anyone, that had an insurance claim denied or actually got sued from an accident for having the BMC DONE ON THEIR TUNDRA. Nothing more.Nothing less....am I hearing crickets?

I think we're conflating issues. I don't think anyone said there had been an instance of being denied a claim or sued, it was a hypothetical argument as to why a dealer could consider it totalled.

I get it. Not conflating at all and definitely hypothetical since so many dealers sell and take in trade modified trucks including Tundras. I hate to see someone here worry about their existing cab mount chop or become wary of having it done because it might be considered "altered" enough be totalled or even exposing themselves to potential denial of claim. What's being completely left out, the elephant in the room, is>>does the cab mount chop properly done actually affect the integrity of the frame? Maybe doesn't cut it. If a dealer out of thousands doesn't want to touch a truck that has had cab mount chopped then go to another dealer. These dealers sure have no problems selling these "altered" framed trucks to us...

If I was a dealer and saw an unfinished cab mount chop with gaping holes I would be very wary too for what it's worth. The chop plates complete the job. Properly welded and painted.....most people wouldn't even notice

As other have said, its pretty much BS but I get why they wouldn't want to take the chance either. I'm mostly surprised they looked it over that closely for a trade in. You will probably have better luck someplace else.

    That said...
I don't know if you were kidding but that line is BS too. I doubt even 1% of the all the Tundra out there have the BMC. Hell even on this site where its a lot more common I doubt more then 20% have done the BMC?

    Anyway good luck

Damn! I got 26xxx on my 15. I bet your truck would still last a long time. But you say you it’s a little beat up. If your intent on getting a new truck, just go get it patched up and painted. Take it to a different dealer and don’t say a damn thing LOL.

I've had it with that dealer, Ill take my biz to one of the other ones in town. They have been dogging me on trade in on this truck for over a year, they fired my sales guy after he got pissed they wouldn't match price with another dealer on multiple 4runners/ tundra's that I sent them. I have put 8+ people ready to buy into the dealerships hands and they all have walked with a better deal from one of the other dealers.... then they pull this stunt. Truck gets plated on wednesday next week!
