I have had an X2 AGM 27F for a year now I knew it was the Northstar they were on sale and had rebates better warranty etc...I did buy the Australian chip (goes in the Alt S fuse slot)to bump my charge voltage by .5 volt(AGM require a range of 14.4 to 14.8volts and a Toyota alternator won't get there and I do hook the battery up about once a week or more to the CTEK 7002. I don't believe you can just put an AGM in the tundra. These batteries require care and feeding....

Just bought an Interstate MTP-24f for $140 OTD. After reading about the AGM issues and not being able to get the same quality Optima red top that I got 10 years ago for a Subaru, Im sticking with wet cells. Not worth the potential headaches of AGM's and having to trickle charge them to keep em topped off.

Original is dead in the driveway right now. Man it died good. No lights at all. Almost forgot how to put it into neutral with a dead battery to move it out the way. The Info y’all have here is just in time!
    Tks.

I worked for the company that made MANY of the battery brands you can buy in North America. If you do your research, there are only about 3 major manufacturers. Save your money and just buy a Napa Legend (100% American made, American materials, American labor), Duracell, and the Walmart Everstart are all made by the same company. If you want to drop the coin, get an AGM, but average use, a standard lead-acid will still last you 3-5 years or even more.

Totally agree. 3 US companies in descending order of quality: East Penn, Johnson Controls and Exide (I think they make only some in US now). NAPA Legend is an East Penn battery; same company that is Deka. WalMart is Johnson Controls I believe. I'd go with the NAPA or it's East Penn equivalent of a different sticker (Deka, etc.) and not worry.

Unless east penn manufacturing lost Walmart, they are the same exact battery as a napa. I left the company awhile ago so I wouldn't know.
And I'm not sure of the status of exide. They may be Mexico or India now.

I just replaced the OEM battery in my 2021 Tundra after 3 1/2 years. Figures the POS would go out already. Anyway, I have been using Duralast Platinum's in all of my vehicles for over a decade. I can typically get 4 years no problem which sadly these days is above average. I Paid $249.00 after core return today for the battery for my Tundra.

Ran into that when my OEM kicked the bucket. They had 27s but not for the Tundra. Dude at counter said they quit carrying them. I figure the average WalMart shopper just looks at price. I put an AGM in my boat for a cranking battery only because the location makes it hard to maintain a wet cell. The big DFI Mercury requires a lot of CCAs and the AGM does not start it like the wet cell I replaced. I don't see an advantage to putting an AGM in a truck.

Thanks for the info Nate. I'll look at that Napa Legend soon.

Put a Duralast group 27 in my truck 5 years 9 months ago. Still strong. Will most likely go with Duralast again.

I put a Napa 27f in my daughters TRD last year and it was stamped made in Mexico, I put a Toyota true start in my truck 2 years ago. No issues with either one.
They all work great until they don’t!
