EEF Qi Charger v2 Release and Dual Charger Sneak Peek…

I have a Limited that didn’t come with the Qi charger so I used the V1 here. It worked fine connected to USB but no the dongle. It would charge until I took my foot off the accelerator for some odd reason. Called support and they told me that the pin out is likely wrong and that I could return it and get a new one when they’ve figured out how to make the V1 work with trucks that didn’t come with the qi feature.

Any update regarding fixing the charging dongle? Installed it, didn’t work and sent you requested pictures and details on my install and the truck’s wiring harness. No response after all that.

 

Just installed the single V2 charger. Connected via USB port. Works fantastic on my iPhone 14 Pro Max (with Apple leather MagSafe case). Very happy with it.

 

Any chance of making a magsafe one?

I followed this guy’s post, took 5 minutes and holds the phone (with MagSafe compatible case) in place. I used an all black one so no white ring showing.

 

Anyone who has installed this, does the Qi status in the Toyota multimedia system software still work like factory with the EEF charger? The little Qi symbol in the top right by the clock. Normally grey, turns blue when there's a phone on the Qi charger.

Otherwise happy with it? Works through a case?

the charge symbol will work with Apple CarPlay as CarPlay is a mirror of the phone. The factory multimedia indicators will not work because you have to disconnect and remove the factory Qi charger in order to install the EEF charger.

The EEF charger will charge with most cases provided the case is not extra thick and/or has metal to interfere with the connecting. Wireless charging relies on proximity to charger and minimal interference to achieve optimal results. What this means is cases that have Mil-Spec ratings, metal mounting plates, pop-sockets, etc will have significantly decreased charging results if it charges at all.

EEF’s charger has a three coil design that provides approximately 6 sq in (2in x 3in) of charging surface area as compared to the factory one which, in testing, only provides 2 sq in (1in x 2in).

One other thing to consider is user phone preferences. Things that may decrease charging speeds include multiple apps simultaneously (especially if they are using location services), push notifications, etc also decrease charging. But that goes for wired charging as well as wireless charging.

Finally, phone manufacturers may limit speeds. EEF has had great success charging Apple and Samsung products. However Google’s Pixel phones have had mixed results. This is due to Google throttling wireless charging on chargers. That are not Google-approved.

I have tested every iteration of the chargers in the development phase and have had good charging. I have used primarily Apple products from iPhone 12-14 and both sizes.

Thanks. That was an excellent response. That's disappointing about the Toyota multimedia system indicator. I have a Quadlock case. No metal, but a bunch of extra plastic for the mount right in the middle. Just have to try.

 

Damn, been a while since I have read anything about these chargers. I actually still have the v1 sitting in the box. I never installed it... v2 is plug and play now with the factory cable? I might have to try and sell v1 and snatch a v2 and actually install it. lol

I bought the original v1 charger, but want to upgrade to the v2. I've had no complaints, but recently my v1 charger got too hot on a long trip and the plastic surface plate melted/deformed slightly and there is a slight hump. It still charges fine, but there is a noticeable lag in the LED light changing colors and the deformed surface is no longer completely flat so my phone doesn't rest flat on it anymore. Is there still a discount for those who want to upgrade to v2?

 

About to pull the trigger on this mod! Any pictures or insight for a SR5 that does not have the factory wiring for the Qi charger? Do I need to drill a hole in the console to use the USB C connection or is there a way to tap in somewhere so I don’t have to drill a hole?

 

I have a sr5 with no Qi charger,but when I pulled out the mounting plate off there’s a wire harness plugged behind it to a dummy.

 

2Tundra2LR is correct that there is a plug/wire behind the console of the non-equipped trucks. However this plug does not provide sufficient juice to power the EEF charger.

For trucks that did not come from the factory with a Qi charger, EEF recommends the USB-style version and route it to the center console USB.

 

how does the charging work with the factory wire harness that was dummied?

 

Idk , haven’t tried it . Read on fb that someone with a limited without factory install Qi, got full charging kit v2 . Said he used the oem harness and charges well according to him so idk .

 

A dual charger would be nice but right now I would settle for one of them. I have sent several emails over the past 3 months and have yet to receive any response. Anyone know if they are still in business?

I think this whole thing kinda ran its course guys, A for effort, and thanks to the guy who didn't work for them to organize all this, but it seems to be DOA now here.
