Went and got new shoes 295/65r20 today to go along with the 5.29's. I put about 120 miles on the gears after reducing the pinion shim. There is a slight whine on decel/coast at 60 to 45mph. Below 45 it's not noticed edit: its there but gotta listen for it. Diff case is not hot and went through a few cool off cycles.

I have everything except the speed master limited slip and the front master install kit. Paid for both the day after Black Friday. Haven’t heard a single thing :notsure:

Wondered about getting a spare rear gear setup since it's still available at lower cost? Hmmm

@carn_dogg well I couldn't resist with the wet roads and I got about 350 miles on the gears...
Speedmaster hooks up fast taking off and will get you sideways and fishtailing. Certainly will put a grin on your noggin. Haha:burnrubber:

What are your initial thoughts on the 5.29 ratio itself? Is it worth the money and hassle with a blower, or too soon to say?

A little soon... But it does take off smoother, seems less resistance? Shifts nicely. I like it.
Yesterday I was at 70 with 2200rpm and 75 was 2500rpm for a short time with 35's. Oh and it holds 6th and doesn't downshift as much. Pretty much what a lot were saying about the 5.29's.

This is most excellent news. Going to be really nice to have it installed. I’m still up in the air about when I’ll get around to it. I think im still going to do LSD and gears in two different installs.

I’m going to use NEGP to do the REM polishing on the gears, as it’s only 249 for both sets. But once you do it, you only have like a month to get installed before you might get any surface rust. So I’m going to hold off on that part. Still need to acquire the front and rear master install kids.

Or just put a coat of oil on the steel and store in a dry place. Should rust on you.

I had started this thread for it. Might be easiest to start doing the rolling list of names over there similar to all of the other loaner threads. My kit is currently with @Silver17, but depending on timing, he may be able to get it off to someone so long as he gets it back for his own "go" time.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/2-2-5-gen-ecgs-bushing-tools.151006/#post-3764467

@VWTim - if you want to be included in that link, I'll just post up 2 lists for tracking purposes. I'm happy to share the thread. Let me know.

It’s true, sorry for holding up the process if anyone needs it. We can get it out to someone else if needed. I won’t need it until mid February. The whole process was just being established when I got my hands on it.

What sealant does everyone use on the front diff tube and actuator? Do i really need to spend $30 for a tube of FIPG?

Ok guys like you know once you start to read a thread you get the itch to start and spend money. Here is where I'm at and have some questions. Was going to start a new thread but figured I'll post it here snice I was going to pull the trigger on the motive gear set.

I'm waiting for my suspension goodies I got from @memario1214 because I'm going for 37".

So that leads me to the regearing rabbit hole. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but don't trust myself to do the gears and LSD.

    So my questions are

    - Does ECGS do 2nd gen drop in for front and rear I don't see nothing on the site?

    - I believe ECGS uses Nitro gears but the don't REM or Cyro treat them. Would they use Motive gears if I provided the already treated?

    - Snice on the topic I been reading on LSD but still can't decide. Auburn ,Powertrax or speedmaster

Weddle is more than 6 weeks out for REM and New England gear is your best bet. I'd steer towards the Powetrax or Speedmaster LSD. Especially if you really use it for offroad. Clutches wear out on the Auburn. The speedmaster does require at least a sae conventional oil 85-140 or straight 140 for the worm gears and is preloaded.
I'd give ecgs a call to see what they got.

I'll give them a call and see what they offer. I'm about 8hrs from them. Seems like the safest bet for knowledgeable shops around me. New England gear is close to me. Just have to see what ECGS recommends snice I don't see anything on there website.

Is ECGS selling all 3 brands? If not, to you can probably determine their recommendations based on what they carry. If all 3 are offered then take their recommendation with a grain of salt since it will be a sales rep opinion. Auburn is known to have issues for this platform. Powertrax is the current standard, but the Speedmaster seems to be a screaming good value, though experiences have yet to be determined. Choose your risk appetite.

They only offer Powertrax and Auburn which i read lots of bad reviews.
As for gears they only offer Nitro which I believe its one of the top brands.

I'm biased because I went Powertrax over Auburn and I dont recall Speedmaster as an option. I'm also biased because I have Nitros, but they were the only 5.29 game in town. Given the state of Nitro as a brand right now, I'd be more inclined to go any other direction. Others will chime in. I'm only 1 voice.
